SIG SU-31 structural failure
Lets spare a moment to those pilots who lost their SU-31 due to inflightbreakups.........
I have bought a SU-31 and want to make it a bit stronger. Seems like the wing is a weak part of the plane and has a tendency to break. Where does it break? Does any one know a good way to strengthen the wing without cutting open too much of it. Many thanks Ground sucks!!! |
SIG SU-31 structural failure
I've been flying mine for almost exactly one year and I put it through everything it is capable of (including blenders) and a, umm, less than desireable landing (pancake :p ). I've never had any trouble with the airplane at all as far as structure goes.
However, I have noticed that a few people have had problems with the lightening holes in the wing ribs actually coming apart, therefor instead of having a rib with 3 lightening holes near the leading edge, they end up with a hollow rib! The only way to fix this would be to strip all the covering off of one side of the wing and replace/reglue the pieces back in to the ribs. If when you shake your wing and you hear numerous pieces of wood bopping around inside the covering, you MAY have this problem going on. But like I said, I haven't had a single problem with it so, luck of the draw I guess ;) |
