funtana .40 setup?
I have no flyable plane now since I crashed my 2.. Im looking at the funtana .40 arf...
I have an NIB OS 50SX and some futaba 3004's.. Would these servos and engine be ok for this plane? |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
That set up should fly the plane pretty good. I would use a 6 volt battery to get more torq & speed from that servo. Also with it being a single ball bearing I would keep a check on it if you use a lot of surface deflection. I would think it would gain a little slop after awhile.
On my Funtana 40 I'm presently using the OS 46 & Fut. 9001 servos. The torq on them at 4.8 is almost the same as the 3004 at 6 volts. I'm presently using 4.8 w/ no problems so thats why I suggested 6 with your servos. The 46 is grossly underpowered for my style of flying but it is still fun. I just purchased a new Saito 82 F.S. to replace the 46 as soon as it arrives. I think the 91 F.S. would be perfect but I just dont really feel like doing alot of modifying to get one in there. The 82 (same size as the 72 which is recomended but with a little more power) should go in without a hitch. By the way the Saito 82 came from a guy's Ebay store & he has a few more and right now is selling them for $240 buy it now with free shipping. The price is about $15 bucks cheaper than Horizon not to mention the shipping they would charge you. Ive been wanting to up the power on mine & figured I'd give it a try. Here should be the URL for his store if anyone is interested http://stores.ebay.com/Andys-RC-Hobb...d-Collectibles Add e-b-a-y without the -'s in the URL in place of the **** to get there |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
Yes it would work fine. Use an APC 12.25 x 3.75 prop. There won't be much excess vertical but you will have fun with it.

RE: funtana .40 setup?
I have been flying a Funtana 40 ARF for the past few months. I use the Saito 72 with a 14 X 4 3D prop and have more than enough power to pull out of a hover. Previously I have used a 13 X 5, 13 X 6 and a regular width 14 X 4 but nothing compares to the wider 3D 14 X 4.
As for servos, I use the Futaba Standard 3004s with absolutely no problems. I agree with the previous poster that 6 volts is better than 4.8 although 4.8 will do the job. What a great plane! |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
I got the new Saito 82 installed & put a few flights on it using a Pro Zinger 14/6 & it was OK I swiched to a 15/4 wide APC & MAN what a difference!!!
Since this engine is the same size as the 72 it fits with out any major mods & gives the plane roughly the same power as a 91. Vertical is unlimited at 2 or 3 clicks below 1/2 throttle. Very good engine choice for this or any other aerobatic 40 size plane!!! |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
hi there please let me know if you use this set up . and of course how it handles as i have a os50sx on the way for another model but want a funtana 40 and would put this engine in it .
thanks |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
aerobatixkid,
I am flying with all 3004's on 6 volts and have had the plane over a year, I have OS 61fx on the front. That plane would fly great with anything from a 40 to a 90 2stroke engine. We have 8 in our club all fly great, there isn't a trick that I havent done with that plane. You will love it. |
RE: funtana .40 setup?
I am currently building my 3rd Funtana 40. The first had a Saito 72 in it with a 14-4W prop. It had enough power - but I wanted more vertical. The 2nd has a Saito 91 in it with a 15-4W prop. This power setup can do it all. I used a Saito motor mount, which required re drilling and installing new blind nuts. If you balance the plane to the specifications - it will require 2 to 2 1/2 ounces of weight in the tail.
One of my friends put a OS 50SX in his, only to replace it with a Saito 82 with a 14-4W. Which provided him with the power and flight characteristics he wanted. I strongly believe this plane was designed solely for a 4 stroke engine. If you have any trouble building this plane - reply to this message. As I said, I am on my third plane and fixed a number of manufacturing / alignment problems. Schooner |
