New Hovering????

I heard from someone at the field about the new hovering where you dive the plane straight down and hover. Special planes that you can change the pitch in the prop while in flight so you can dive your plane down and hover. I was wondering about this and how it all works out.

It's called variable pitch props, Hobby-Lobby is suppose to be carrying them soon in kits. They allow much like a helicopter, the planes propeller to change pitch in flight drastically changing its flight characteristics. Its really neat and I am sure you will see quite a few at the ETOC

CAn't imagine it being easy, bit like trying to balance a hocey stick on hte end of your finger

balacing the stick on your finger is easy, look at the top.

lol

but the thing about inverted hovering, which i have done with a reverced proped and reverced motor shockflyer is you have no propwas over the surfaces, i.e no controll:D

Sides nose pointed up looks cooler, though dive to the ground stop at 1cm away and blast back up backwards would be fun.

The 3d helis beat us to it though [:@]

So is there some torque or thrust device that will change the pitch as the dynamics on the propeller changes. Mor bite at higher thrust/torque demands?

As far as I know, mixing the pitch with thottle is something to do. But thats not the fun, theres a video on www.slowflyworld.de go into the videos section and look for "knuffelverstellprop" and see what fun a variable pitch prop can be used for.

I fly with Scott Foster in Columbus, Ohio who is developing the variable pitch system to sell and it will change your WOW factor!! Hobby Lobby will have them.
