Back to flying!!!
I used to fly my Morris knife pretty well and I was still learning 3d. About 2 years ago I had shoulder surgery and quit flying. Well, I'm on vacation this week and I decided to get back to it. I tried (and tried...) to get my Realflight G2 going on my new computer to practice. Turned out the disk was scratched and I have to upgrade to the usb version. So, no sim for awhile. I was nervous about risking my Morris Knife and Saito 72. There is a real knowledgeable guy at RC Hobbies in Ft. Lauderdale (I cannot recall his name-hey- it's been 2 years!) and I talked to him yesterday about trying electric 3d. Anyhow, he said you get rusty but don't forget how. So today I took my plane over to the college field and flew! It was fantastic. I had WAY too much fun! I could even hover- well, sorta almost! The only mishap was one landing where I misjudged and came down on the far side of a big bush thicket- into the bush-no damage (well, lots of scrapes on ME).
Any of you guys who have been out for awhile, c'mon! Jump back in! It was NO harder than 2 years ago. Woo-hooo! I forgot how fun this is! I'm still trying to get this silly grin off my face. |
RE: Back to flying!!!
:)Welcome back. I've only been flying for two years so I probably have a worse time than you do, but still come home grinning.
Hope you continue to have great fun. Thanks, Barry |

RE: Back to flying!!!
Flying two years after 15 years off- One thing is certain- when you get back into it you go with gusto! In these last two years I could have bought a brand new Harley (sportster:eek:) for what I have invested in planes!

RE: Back to flying!!!
Flying two and a half years after 24 years off... It all came back very fast...After 5 or 6 flights was flying like I had not stopped.. COULD NOT BELEIVE The CHANGES, ALL GOOD !!! ;) When I left there were NO computer radios or ARFs.. Most everthing is also about 75% less... Plane Geek, you are also right as I got back into it BIG TIME ... 10 planes to choose from and pres. of our club.. Walt... |
RE: Back to flying!!!
Hey thanks for the welcomes! Yeah, even after just 2 years the changes are pretty incredible. I imagine all the changes in 8 yrs or more would be unreal. The advances in 3d foam planes look really sweet. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try out an electric 3d ship after I've looked into it a bit. The yak55 looks nice, but this electric stuff is Greek to me. Li-po, all the different motors, just all of it. Sure would be nice, though. I teach Elementary Science, so after work (3:00) I could just walk out to the baseball/soccer field and fly. It looks like it has an advantage to glow- seems like you would have a hard time wrecking bad enough to hurt the motor/esc/rx/servos... and the planes are $40-50! Now that I might try hovering right in front of me.
Great to be back. I'm going again this afternoon! |
