Edge 540
I'm looking at getting an aerobatic plane, and I'm leaning towards an Edge 540.
I've only recently soloed and I'm currently flying a stik, if this a good plane to move to to get into some 3d stuff, if so, who makes the best kit, or, if not, does anyone have a better suggestion? |
I have
I have the Hangar 9 Edge 540, and am also putting a Dave Patrick 330L together. The Edge is lots of fun, and I've heard the DP is great for 3D.
Unless you are fairly adept at flying, I urge you to move in successive steps, rather than jumping into the deep end of the pond right away....Fly in many attitudes (inverted, straight up, straight down, do cuban 8's, inverse 8's, spins, inverted spins etc.), in more than one type of airplane, and fly with a purpose. That being said, there is some support to the notion that you don't gain unless you take some risk. |
Edge 540
we'll you say you just soloed a Little while ago which is great. but I've seen guys jump to fast to an airplane that is above there abilities and it ended up in the ground. now you may have been flying everyday and have alot of flight time in and ready for the edge. the edge is an awesome airplane. it goes exactly where you put it and no where else. its like it on rails and lands great. but if you don't have some time on the sticks when you put it on the wrong rails it has no self recovery like i said it goes where you put it . so if you have a good bit of flight time in the edge would be a perfect plane for 3d. what i did was buy a morris hobbies sledge 540. 100 bucks and flies alot like the edge you can crash this baby and not lose any sleep. so i would suggest the sledge first then the edge. you wont be sorry either with the sledges performance it will do it all.
my .02 cents worth :) Chad |
Edge 540
Thanks for the replies ..
I started flying glow at the beginning of the summer and have been flying on and off since then. Between my dad and myself we've only burned about 2 gallons of fuel. The stik I fly now has a fair bit of dihedral in the wing, and being a stik, doesn't exactly go where it's pointed. I saw the sledge in Model Airplane News, and thought it was pretty neat. Perhaps I'll look into it before and actual edge. Thanks again .. -AM- |
Edge 540
Yeah, as light and slow as possible.

Edge 540
The sledge from morris hobbies is a very very aerobatic plane, i would fly it on low rates before starting to really do some 3d with it
