Good 3D plane for ST2300?
Hey. I've got a ST2300 laying around here. Was looking for a good 3D plane. I'm leaning towards the F90. But open to all other opinions. LHS guy said the Aeroworks Extra Profile would be a good 3D plane. It is a big profile and pretty lite.
I have all other equipment as far as high torque servos and such. I want a good lite plane that will pull out of a hover decently with the ST 2300. Kits and Arf's welcome and under $300. thanks guys |

They are over 250 though and the 1.4 2 stroke is at the bottom end for their recommendations. Don't think the ST2300 will 3D it too well at 11+ lbs. OMP stuff is stinkin expensive. Sorry.

Snap! I have a G23 too and was thinking of the Funtana 90. Could be a good combo. I've got to get the new type throttle barrel which cures the rich midrange prob's on this engine before I start. The F90 is a bargain too IMO.

RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
I have heard it is an awesome combo. I have the new carb. and it works great. But if you get the F90 and put the tank at CG, then you will need a perry pump and perry carb. Plus a pitts muffler.

Some of you where wondering about this combo. I test flew the Funtana with the ST2300 and Perry/pump/carb combo yesterday and all I got to say is....hooooo haaaa! sweet combo.
I was rather surprised that I had to add weight the nose even with pull pull rudder. The initial test flight was a hand full as it was way tail heavy. I guess I didnt take in to consideration the 20oz fuel tank behind the wing tube. I added about 3 oz to the nose and used a 16 oz tank. All the fuel in a 16 oz tank that I need as you dont need much more then 1/3 to half throttle for most flying I could fly for over 12 min on about 10 oz. a fuel mizer. But go vertical WOT with the aileron rolled over hard and it will bore holes in the sky till you cant see it no more. I will move the throttle servo to the engine box and a std spinner backplate instead of the lightened one. The only thing I did to the tail to add weight was used one diamond wire bracing and added a few grams to the rudder strengthening it. The rudder needs to be bigger or I neeed a better servo. Otherwise it was a FUN airplane to fly. ST2300 w/Perry pump/carb combo (if you use the std carb put the fuel tank behind the firewall) SlimLine pitts style muffler (sounded great) 15% Cool Power OS "F" plug 18X6 wood Zinger was the right prop For those that will run the ST with the stock carb. Put the fuel tank behind the firewall and use the fuel tank setup method descibe on Bob Pastorello's webpage www.rcaerobats.net click on Excelleron, you'll see it in the narrative. Other usefull ST2300 info is on his home webpage. Wayne G. |
RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
How'd it hover? Was the pullout strong? What's your all up weight? What servo's you using?
If I think of anything else I'll ask! :D |
RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
It hovers at about half throttle and has MORE then enough power to pull out of about anything. Mine wieghts at 9lbs 14 oz after getting it all setup. I could have built it lighter but I needed weight up front so I used the stock wheels and pants and a modified set of aluminum gear. If I had the elevator servos up front then I could probably save about 6 oz overall. I would have though the ST2300 with SLimLine muffler would have been more then enough weight up front. I think if I where to build another one I would use JR 9411's in the tail as they would be about 1oz lighter overall then the Futaba's. I just happen to have these Futaba's left over from another project. But every plane is slightly different so go accordingly. I also put a diamond wire bracing on th etail in addition to the c.f. under struts to stiffen the stab and this added some weight back there.
18x6 wood Zinger (if you use an 18x6wide APC prop it would be about 1.5 oz heavier) I think the wood prop is the way to go as it spins up faster with the 2 stroke then the heavier APC props. Futaba 9202's on the ailerons Futaba 9101's on the elevator JR 8411 on the rudder std Futaba on throttle 1650mil NiMh 5 cell with 6v regulator Wayne ORIGINAL: Wowbagger How'd it hover? RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
Thanks Wayne, that's all I need to know. I'll ring and see if they've got one in stock tomorrow! Thanks! ;)
Is Slimline the makers name? If yours runs good on it I should get one too, but where? |

Toymaker,
How does the perry pump and carb improve performance? I am getting ready to buy a setup for my ST 2300 and will be mounting it inverted. I already have the slimline inverted pitts muffler. |
RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
Got the Funtana 90 today after a long drive and getting lost for about an hour! Looks sweet.
Toying with the idea of fitting the Perry pump and carb myself as the original is a piece of junk. What's the model number of the carb and pump Toymaker? |
RE: Good 3D plane for ST2300?
V-30 pump 5002 series carb
http://www.perrypumps.com/products.htm I wish I would have gotten the inverted muffler myself. I just happened to have this side mount one. The pump and carb will make this engine idle very good and has excellent fuel draw qualitites, just what you need while in a hover. swings an 18x6 prop no problem. I had this setup on my first pattern plane and rarely ever did I have to adjust anything once it was set. I cant ever remember having a flame out in over 350 flights either. Use an OS "F" plug and 15% fuel When the rpms seem to drop off a little at top end or if the throttle transistion is not smooth through the range then it most likey needs a new plug. I got about 50 flights before needing to change plugs. Wayne G |
