Hovering G2300
 

I have a 72" profile plane that weighs 10ibs 8oz. The purpose of the plane is
to hover, The plane has a ST G2300. I need info on props for hover this plane,
I have all seen all kinds of props recommened for this engine:
16 x 8
17 x 8
17 x 10
18 x 6
18 x 8
19 x 6
20 x 6
Anyone have a plane they ARE hovering with this engine? What prop are you
using?

Since the plane only weighs 10.5 pounds go with the 17 x 6 apc. Don't go any larger than 17 inch because the plane is so light and you want to keep your R's up a bit for good transition and throttle setting durring hover. The 16 x 7 apc might be another prop that would work well. Both these props are under propped for this motor. It will be out of the power range of this motor at full throttle but you will like them a lot on your 10.5 pound plane.

I like my USL with G2300 on an APC 18x6... Great Transtion.... Great top end... SLOOOOOWWWW Idle.

I used 18x6 wood in a 13.5lbs biplane on this engine and the damn thing would pull you over! I'll be fitting one in a Funtana 90 soon and already have a supply of 18x6's ready to go. ;) 18x6 is a running in prop on this motor, the manual says 18x8 to 18x10. I've always thought it's pull a 20x6 and I'll try it too when I get it done. Let us know your results.

I am running this engine on a Funtana 90 using an 18x6 wood ZInger.

The wood prop is lighter then an APC and will rev quicker. I have an 18x8W APC but havent tried it yet.

The only 19x6 I know is the Bolly Carbon Fiber prop. It's very expensive, heavy and efficient. I am guessing peak 8000 rpm w/ this prop

If you go up to a 20x6, the only 20x6 that will give you more rpm is the Mejzlik hollow carbon fiber prop. It's not as wide as the rest of the 20x6 like Zinger, Pro Zinger, MA Classic, and Dynathrust[&:]

There is a negative impact when you swing too large diameter of prop on a plane too small. I tried a Zinger 20x6 on Moki 180 on a 13 lb. Cap. At idle it would rock the plane too much on the ground due to the slow rpm and large torque reaction. But we are talking about 1200 rpm idle. Not a problem in the air though.

So, like I said in your other thread, Menz 18x6 is the best for your application. For 3D, I usually go by 25% of wing span to be my prop diameter. This way the tail surfaces gets completely in the prop wash, and good portion of the wing gets in the prop blast for a good harrier.
