Throttle Curve, Yours?

I've been messin with profiles since the inception of the Morris offerings and had several discussions with Walter himself back in the day. Have three of them presently as well as a 33% Edge and a 40% 3W 330S. My current dilemma is the 3W 150 in the 330. It has ample power and flies great. I'm trying to get the throttle curve for hovering and am getting frustrated! I have a 10X and am trying to tailor the curve. Maybe it's the engine? Are you 3D and hovering gurus of large aircraft moving the throttle stick one or two clicks, or zero to half travel to get the engine to do what you want? It seems that one setting is too low and the next click of the stick is too high to keep a steady hover, or to start a torque roll? I've watched others and it seem that they move the throttle stick quite a bit. My style is to move it a little with just the right rpm setting between clicks. My engine is sthe older style 3W 150. I've witnessed the new style 3W engines in action at the Chatanooga 3D fly in and it seems like they are crisper and a bit more responsive in the throttle. Help me out here_bob

Throttle Curve, Yours?

Bob,

I am struggling with this as we speak. I dont find it a problem really on hovers but just above where I am hovering at, I get a big RPM jump.
I have heard about a throttle to throttle mix that may help but I dont know that much about it yet.
I will let you know when I find out.

OK

Hi Wayne. What plane? I have my throttle mixed to the left hand slider on my 10X. This allows me to set the rpm so to speak for a particular setting. What radio are you using? Just can't seem to get what I want though. Maybe it's just my time of the month

Plane is my AW Edge
Radio is an 8103.

Throttle curve

You should have a slight change in RPM with every click of the throttle stick....this should be done mechanicaly with the correct length servo arm ...then fine tuned with the throttle curve.( if needed)....keep it rich on the low end and close to tweaked on the top end on the engine and adjust the setup from that point on....don't need any power off tail touches...hope this helps.............J. curves baby

Yes I do a throttle to throttle curve thats what i have on my FUT 9cap,
it gives me a little graph on the screen and its broken into 5 parts , i can adjust each part to get a great curve !!! makes all the diffrence in the world for hovering and other crazy stuff. and it works great for gassers as they can be like a toggle switch. I also do what the heli guys do and take out the throttle ratchet ,(no clicks just a smooth throttle sometimes one click is too much ,somtimes its not enough )
Throttle curve , Its the best thing since EXPO ... :D

Throttle curves.

Bob, what I'm getting from this is that when you move your throttle stick, you get too much power with just a few clicks, correct???

Simple fix, you are on the right track. Just need to fine tune your curve. At 25% stick travel, that is where I start my curve, and finish it at almost 65% stick travel. I have 3 different points in the curve. Point 1 starts at 25%, obviously. :) Point 2 is around 45-50% stick, and point 3 is at the 65% stick. And I'm NOT finished setting up my curve. I need more curve past 65% stick. When I get to the point over half stick, it justs up about 500R's and leaps up about 45 feet!!! Its good if your TR's or a hover gets a little hairy, but if you are in the groove and feeling it, it's too crazy! I have the JR 10X with an AW Edge 540T and a Cactus SS 100.

On your curve, make sure that your curve goes towards the bottom of the screen, otherwise you'll be hovering at 10% stick, and leaping up 45 feet like I am with 1 click of throttle stick.

Good luck. It just takes time to get it right. I couldn't get an inside 270 degree 3 roll turn down the first time. It just takes time and a little tweaking in the Tx. Don't get frustrated, if you do, it takes longer to get it right.

Chris~

8103 curve

With the 8103 I have done two things to get a good "curve". One is to set the TRVL ADJ a higher % on H and a lower % on L. Example: H 90% L 60%. This is with the mech travel on the servo equal when high and low are the same. Then sub trim as needed. This will slow down the low. But don't over cook it or you will get a dead area just off idle.

The other is do a THRO>THRO mix.

Jess,

Can you explain how to do that with an 8103?

Throttle Curve, Yours?

Wayne, go to [PROG.Mix1] and input THRO>THRO. Then you can set the points and curve at 25% travel intervals. This option is only available on Mix 1 and 2. (Multi point) At Point scroll to L set, then 1 set and so on. I set the mix to be on at all times so as not to worry about switch position. If you have any more questions, fire away.

Need more work

I guess it will take some more time to work the thing out. Hey Joey Hamilton! Great show in Chatanooga. You are a nice guy to boot. Really enjoyed your freestyle routine. Attached is one of the pics I have of you getting personal with your plane. So, when you're flying like that, how much are you moving the throttle stick? A little, or alot? Maybe my plane isn't the optimum. It's a 3W 330S and weighs right around 39 pounds. The cg is about as far back as it should go and it's a super smooth flyer but backing it down from a hover isn't as easy as I see others doing it. Maybe if the plane would slide down easier this wouldn't be such a deal? Same question to you IFLY3W? How much are you moving the stick during hovers and T/R's?

throttle curve

Hi Bob, Thanks for the kind words, Owen put on a great event for sure!..I'm still laughing about the toothbrush thing..<G> I try to keep all setups as simple as possible..there is no substitute for simple geometry....thats why I threw in the (engine settings) and then the throttle adjustments with the correct servo arm length and then the fine tuning of the curve in that order...temp, humidity, alt...etc. all are relative to throttle stick position in TR's and hovers...it can take as many as 20 flights to find that perfect setting that suites your flying style.....e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll be glad to help any way I can.............Thanks, Joey H.

Yes I do a throttle to throttle curve thats what i have on my FUT 9cap,
I too have messed with this on my hovering machine, a Saito 180 powered Profile ship from Aeroworks. I used the five point mixing on my Futaba 9C to do this. I basically programmed in a flatter curve in the middle of the stick. For this plane and engine, it made throttle control during the hover ALOT easier.

Can't help you with your 8103. Ask a heli guy.

Throttle Curve, Yours?

While I don't hover, I do like a constant power setting for most of my routine. I use a multipoint setting (5 points on Futaba). I find the RPM that I want the engine to run at and I set my 2nd & 4th points to hit this rpm. I then adjust my 3rd point to make sure the curve is basically flat. (Never have 4th higher than 2nd). Once this is done, I make any fine adjustments to the total speed with my D/R setting on my throttle. This has worked well for me in helping me be consistent in my use of power.

I too have to say that Owen and team put on a very good show. I was there for Saturday and witnessed flying skills that I would covet. I can't wait until the "2nd Annual 3D Invitational"
