U-Can-Do-3D Video
My setup as follows
Engine: Saito .91 Prop: APC 16x4W Fuel: Powermaster 20/20 CG: 6-1/4" Weight: 7.6lbs http://www.3dbatix.com/videos/ucd3d.wmv |

Hey,
What RPM does your Saito peak the 16x4W? I am thinking of getting this plane and the OS 91 Surpass II with the 16x4W prop. I hope that the OS 91 Surpass will swing the 16x4W w/ 1) good throttle response, 2) adequate top rpm. Otherwise, I might opt for Saito 100 or YS 91. |

By the way, very nice flying. I've been flying aerobatic for 13 years, but haven't had a plane that I can do 3D with. I hope this one is my ticket.

8600 RPM, same as my Pro Zinger 15x6. Honestly I think the 16x4W is too much for my Saito .91, it does not spool fast enough, it seems to bog a little but the improvement from the 15x6 was 100 times better. It has unlimited vertical and it pulls it out of a hover with authority. I'm going to try a 15x4W instead and I think that it would be a better choice for your OS 91 as well.

Well, I don't have an OS 91 yet. I am contemplating which engine to get. I have 5 choices, going from top to bottom in both preference:
YS 91 $275, best power and throttle response Saito 100 $279, lightest OS 91 Surpass $229, easiest to handle (quietest?) OS 91 FX $200, good all around Super Tigre G90 $150, cheapest So depending on what is needed for the plane, I will optimize the dollars. I think I will get the YS if I can find one locally. |

Fantastic video...I'm doing a review on this plane and will be putting it together in the next couple weeks and flying it. Plane looks great and flies great...
I'm putting an OS 90 Surpass in mine which I'm told by others who have tried this combo is excellent. Now after seeing the video I have a fire lit under me... Also the video footage is very nice...can you message me what camera was used. I have a Canon ZR45 and have issues with focus on the planes and color is a bit dull. |

Camera used is a Sony TRV530

Jeez, your elevator servos have a speed of .08??? No wonder those walls looked so nice! :)
Excellent flying BTW. If you have the time, try to get a nice vid of other maneuvers, harriers, rolling/inverted harriers that you love so much, more spins and what not. All the 'wall-to-hovers' were nice, but can we see more? Also, how do you think this plane would perform if 2 of those servos cost less than the plane :) (standard servos) Not everyone can afford 3 servos with 111oz-in of torque just for the back of the plane :) |

All those were missed by my camera man. Will try again. Yeah, those Futaba 9402 were fast. .10sec. Honestly I don't know how standard servos would do. You'll definitely get the 45 degree throw and 50oz. should hold. But get at least an 80oz for the rudder. |

Awesome video. Hopefully mine will fly 1/2 as nice. I'm going with a TT F-91S to start out with, if that's not enough, I'll stick my YS up front. I'm only 3 tanks into break in on the TT and it's already turning 9000 rpm with an APC 15x6 prop on 15% nitro running pretty rich (ain't idling worth sh*t yet though, maybe another 2 tanks and I'll try to take it up). I hoping to get mid to high 9ks once it's completely broken in. Hopefully this will offset the extra 5oz of weight compared to the Saito. I'm also planning on using HS-77s (weighs about .3oz lighter than standard servos each, 65oz-in on 4.8v and, .18 sec for 60 degrees travel; I've had good luck substituting this servo on the rudder of my 40 sized pattern plane) on the ailerons and elevators, a HS-605 on the rudder, and a micro/mini on the throttle, an FMA micro RX, and a 4 cell 1650mAh NiMH pack. I'm hopeful that the plane turns out just a hair above 7lbs...
What do you guys think? |
U-Can-Do-3D Video
Guys just for my info, how much difference do you think there would be in performance on the same plane (U Can 3D) using servos with different speeds. For example say one with .10 sec vs one with .18 sec? Do you think you would be able to tell the difference on elevators and walls? What I'm getting at is would .08 sec make that much difference on these or any other moves?

Video Viewer?
Hi Guys, What Viewer are you using to view this clip with? Where do I get it? TIA, Dan.

U-Can-Do-3D Video
It Windows Media Player...you can get it on the Microsoft website free if it's not on your computer already.
|
Blame Microsoft
On Windows XP I had to RIGHT click on the file then select "Open With" then select "Windows Media Player" from the list. Don't forget to check the little box if you want to ALWAYS associate that type of file with Windows Media Player. Kind of stupid that their format doesn't automagically open Media Player, but what do you expect from the hacks in Redmond?

Mecam, just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the heads up on the prop and thrust angle.I flew my UCD last weekend and was very dissapointed with the Madien. After reading this thread I changed to an APC 15x4W,and added two washers behind the left motor mount, and what a difference,it's like two different planes.I had damn near everyone either flying it or at least wanting to fly it,I probablly sold 3 of em for the LHS today!!LOL,anyway, thanks

I missed the post on the thrust angle...what's the deal with that?? I noted the instructions said the center line would be offset but it looked dead center on my firewall plus I could not detect any right thrust built into the firewall...is this the same as with all yours? I haven't put on a meter to check for sure but wonder if this is what your referring to now.

lv2rcav8, I too was disappointed at first, but after a few mods and the wide prop change, this is the only plane I fly now.
RCadmin, mine actually had a left thrust so I had to add 3 washers to get the correct right thrust. Here is a picture of if now. http://www.3dbatix.com/images/ucd3d/ucd3d3sm.jpghttp://www.3dbatix.com/images/ucd3d/ucd3d2sm.jpg |
