Assembling the Chip Hyde Extra

There is no assembly manual yet available (that's the price of getting a first run of a new plane) So I am winging it on many issues. Mark Trent ( Chief Kahuna and test pilot) is kindly sending me a cd with pictures of his prototype which will make my job much easier and avoid any mistakes. I was most concerned about the setup using Chips' quiet pipes and cannisters. Really there is very little to do to get this plane in the air but I want to make sure I do everything I can to insure it's flying straight and will excell at 3D. I have included some pix of this process and will continue to give anyone a look at the Extra that might be curious.

looks cool but i personally wouldn't glue anything that you couldn't fix yet just because. You can install the servos now.

:D Wheel pants require epoxying ply plate inside to allow for 4-40 T nuts. It has been lengthened to provide extra stiffness to fiberglass. This blurry picture is my SWB ganged servo tray. It is self-adjusting so bell cranks don't have to be perfect. In theory it should work. We'll see.

:D You will need to use the laser cut insert unless you have an awfully big servo. This is the way they have you install the ailerons using the anodized aluminum horns. They are wood screwed into a hard point. I also hardened the holes with CA and epoxied the base to the aileron. This is not the way I usually do this but Chip says it works fine.

Where did you get the swb servo tray? Does it come with everything for installation?

I got the tray direct from SWB from their web site. It was ordered with everything needed for the installation. It ain't cheap!

Hey Skip. Thanks for all the info on the Extra. I just ordered one at the Toledo show, should be here in a couple weeks. Does the kit come with with linkages to. If not what did you use?
