RE: Wind Question???

The wind blows A LOT here. It's to hot in the summer and to cold in the winter. I think it's great!!!!!! If you find a place that has perfect weather you have to share the airspace with a bunch of guys. Some of whom are bound to be tube steaks. I would hate to have to wait for a FREQ pin. I would much rather fly in the wind with a handfull of good friends.

You gotta pick your days in north central MT. Winters can be bad, (like this last one). I went almost an entire month without flying. We do get some nice days in the spring, but that tends to be our windiest season. Now the evenings in July and August, on the other hand, are generally sunny and still. It cools off after about 7 or 8, and it's light enough to fly until 10PM. I burn a heck of a lot of glow fuel in July and August. Only the occasional thunderstorm is a threat to almost ideal conditions. I wish it could be that way all year.

I flew today in a 10-15 MPH wind with gusts up to 20-25. Landings are hairy with those short strong gusts.

RE: Wind Question???

Dad and I used to drive out to Beaumont CA from Moreno Valley (he was stationed at March AFB at the time) and we'd get there and it would be too windy to fly. It sucked - one day he just got tired of it and said "we're flying."

We did - it was a whole lot of fun too. A sig Kadet Sr floating in the wind without moving is quite interesting to see. It was fun and now I'm not afraid of the wind; though I try to be safe and not fly when it's crazy windy and only fly the planes I know can handle the wind. I don't think I would do it with my 3D planes.
