One of my main questions about flying 3D is what exactly does it take to set up an airplane for 3D flying????
I feel that I know basically what it takes like a rearward CG with lots of throw and lots of power..... but I know this can't be all of it.... or is it????? What would the fine points of setting up one of these airplanes be???? I've heard that in choosing an airplane for 3D, it's more important that the airplane be properly set up, rather than what type of airplane it is..... if this is true then what exactly is a properly set up airplane???? |
3D
3D requires several components. First, you need the right airframe. What you need mostly is control surfaces that constitute 50% or more of the total stab area. BIG Elevators! Big Rudder! Ailerons help but the tail is most critical. A rearward CG is helpful but it doesn't have to be so far back that it makes the plane dangerously unstable. You will need dual rates on the radio, you won't want to fly with extreme throws! You need reliable power, you don't need a rocket but it needs to be able to pull out from a dead stop with some authority. You need patience. It will take practice.
You can ck out my site for some more info. I have a good bit there. PS - look for some local help. If you don't have any locals that 3D get to New Orleans some time. There are several good pilots there, or you can come over to Mobile, AL and see a bit. Bean |

Awesome pilot! The Cap on the first video was sold to a friend of mine. He took 18" off the wing and the entire left aileron with a 4x4 post on an inverted pass at Joe Nall and flew it in! Believe it, it is true. Mike |
