Magic and mds 40
What size prop for magic and mds 40 for good 3d throttle response? I will try a 10x5 and 11x4 . Any info on this plane would be great.
Thanks in advance Derf |

If it is the older MDS it will never have the throttle response you need. In the last couple of months they have been coming threw with a new carb. I have no experience with this one or have I heard anything on it. The Magic is a little short coupled to be a great 3d flyer, but it is ok

good airplane
I heard nothing but good things on the magic, but watch out on the MDS engine. It will tun a 10X6 on my trainer all day, and it has impressive high rpm numbers, but this engine just plain sucks. Some are good, and some aren't, just make sure to run about a gallon on it on the bench and in lazy flight, until the engine breaks in, which takes about 1-2 gallons!!
Believe me, this engine is a piece of crap early on, but proves itself later on in its life. Also, with such a large bore carb, its low end and transition sucks, so use a FOX long reach glow plud with an idle bar. and make sure that this engine is healthy, cuz you don't want it to stall out in the midlle of a torque roll 2 feet off the ground. Believe me, it has happened. |

I had an MDS and it was a turd. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I was then told that M-D-S stands for
I believe it. However, the Magic is a way-too-cool plane for a hundred bucks. I fly mine on an el-cheapo ASP .46 and it's a HOOT and a half. -Mark- |

Last count,I have 27 engines,3 are MDS,used them 4 or 5 months, very disappointed on throttle response, cleaned them ,then stored them, don't know if I'll sell them or just leave them in the baggies. My .02.
Have a goodun,John. |
