Hitec eclipse 7 destroyed plane

I got to the field today and went to fly my Jumping Jack electric. It was fairly hot out 88 Deg. (somehow i suspect this is part of my problem) well before take off i noticed an aileron was out of whack. so i went into program mode and it locked up. so i restarted the radio (off and on) turns out my fingers were on the model select 2 buttons.. the radio did not come on but could notice the LCD readout made a slight change like it tried. so i restarted it again. went into program mode. fixed the subtrim. then proceeded to fly the plane. after getting it up i had to trim ailerons and some down elevator. when i hit the elevator trim the beep just locked and i had ZERO control of my plane. i tried cutting it off and then back on before it hit the ground. I didnt have much time so i had to do it fast . well it stayed locked as the plane drilled into the ground at half throttle straight in. completely desroying the plane and a Thunder Power 2100 3s pack. i recreated the same thing 3 or 4 times at the field. but after getting home and the radio had been in the A/C for a while i cant recrate it...

It has acted weird on other hot days too..

I am ordering a 9CAS tomorrow

I have two of them and never had this problem.. I have flown with them in temps anywhere from 15 degrees to 118 degrees (with the heat index). Maybe it had more to do with the speed control or the receiver?? Could be the radio but if so it is a freak case.

the speed controller dont lock the beeps on the trim tab when triming to a CONTINUOUS beep.. also it was checked with my U-can-do and there was no movement when locked up it has to be cut off and restarted to get the annoying flatline sound to quit and regain function. It is POSITIVeLY my controller. I dont trust it anymore after that.. i am sending it back to hitec for repair and selling it after i get it back.

Im still pretty ticked ,the plane flew so well too. and it ruptured my battery ruining it..

drumbum,
does the hitec have a freq modual that plugs in the back.if so i have a futaba super8 that went into lock and i lost my sig se and it turned out it was the solder on the pins in tx that the modual plugs into.had it fixed and no more problems but still dont trust so i bought a futaba t9chp super.so what im trying to say also is things can happen too any radio no matter what brand, that is why they sugest you send them in time to time.

I wouldnt get all upset. I had my Futaba 9c do kinda the same thing. I range checked it everything was fine. I was taxiing out and everything went full throw. Kinda like it went into fail-safe or something. I brought it back to the pits and everything was real glitchy. I took it home and could not recreate the problem. I sent it to Futaba to fix it. Fortunately they did find a problem with it. There was a loose connection on the inside. I thought I was gonna have to get another transmitter, but the problem was found and fixed. This could be something as simple as that. If you get it back and they didnt find a problem then I would be worried, but if they do find a problem and can fix it, then the trans will be fine.

yes it does have a module in the back. as a matter of fact i tried jiggling it to see if it did anyting but still couldnt get it to mess up.. but i bet i can stick it in my car and take it to work in the morn and leave it outside for a while and recreate it. there is something that dosent like heat that is going on.. I know resistors and IC chips change values as the heat goes up or down. I jsut cant pin point exactly what it is.. on other hot days it has not let me into program mode or switch models but today is the first time ive had it to just LOCK up.. I know other radios have problems too. i have had this radio for about a year with no problems. a guy at our club bought a optic 6 a couple of weeks ago and I was programing it for him and his dual rate switch went bad right on the spot while we were setting it up..

If you had your TX in AC BEFORE you went flying there is a good chance some condensation built on the electrinics in the TX and shorted it out. Sailplane guys noticed that when the TX was in the trunk out of AC on the drive to the field they had no problems, but when it was in the passenger compartment with the AC on they had $2,000 moldies do the same as yours. after a little head scratching they pulled the back off the TX and found condensation.

Think about what happens to a nice cold can of Coke, on a hot, and humid day.

Bummer you lost your plane- that really sucks.

Man - if my transmitter exhibited that sort of behavior it would be in a box and ready to ship back to hitec before I had a change to take the gas out of my plane.

It's simply not worth the risk to your airplane and more importantly the safety of the people around you.

Send the radio in and be happy that you didn't hurt anyone.

Wow, that sucks-big time.

What time interval do you guys allow to lapse before sending a transmitter in for a 'check-up'?

I have had mine for about 5 years now, no problems, but I am wondering if I should send it in.
