Hey Yall,
I just got this bird as a first 3d plane, and the only engine the store had in stock to power it was a 1.50 saito. Is this too much for this plane? I asked the guys in the shop that, and they said it would be fine, just extra power to pull out of hover with, but I'm a noob to 3d stuff, am I asking for trouble with this plane and engine combo? I bought a 18x6 prop for it, as it was the lowest pitch prop they had in stock for that engine, and also the lowest pitch the manual recomends for the engine.
I have a Saito in mine, sweet combo, however, I'm using the APC 17x6 on mine. You are going to want the quicker "spool up" of the smaller diameter. You might also try the 16.5x5W, I'm picking one up this week.

Just butt the back of the tank against the front on the wing tube, the saito will pull fuel fine from that position without the use of any kind of pump except muffler pressure. The is a neglible difference in the way the planes feels and performs in flight from a full tank to an empty tank with this setup. The Showtime is no way near as sensitive to shift change from full to empty as the F90 is.

take care,
Zonk

You can put the tank in the prescribed location and it flies great from full to empty. No real change in 3D performance. I fly it with a SA-100 at sea level and it has OK power. I will be switching to the 125 to get better exceleration out of a hover.

I just got back from flying my ST today. The wind was out of the south straight down the runway. Had a great time using high rates......the rolls are a blur, hoovering was a little tuff in the wind....I really enjoy how the plane locks in when you pull up to hoover.

While I was landing on my last flight a truck pulled up with an older man and his grand kids....they were all wide eyed and asking question. So I put my last drop of fuel in and showed them what it will do.....needless to say when I was done all 3 kids were wanting grandpa to buy them one......LOL.

I read earlier in this thread about someone doing a mod to the wing so the hatch doesn't have to be removed to attach the wing. Does anyone have a complete discription and pictures of the mod?

Flew my showtime today after installing the new 1.25 saito that I bought from the LHS yesterday and with only three tanks, I can say, " daddy likes "

a little tip when putting this engine in stupid me didnt put a fuel line on the crankcase pitot and it blew a little oil/fuel in where the circle cut is in the firewall for the tank, caught it before it got too soaked inside, luckily!

Saito 1.25
Hitec 645mg all around
CP 15% 2 stroke
MA 16x6 k

and needs some weight in the nose or a pull pull, engine is way light :)

Thats really good to hear about the showtime with the 125. Im sure its going to be a very good combo with this plane. I havn't starting building yet as im still collecting parts. Right now got the motor and using hitec 6525 for all surfaces and the 6545 for the rudder. Maybe when i get a little more time ill start it..

The only way I can see to do that would be to drill and tap a bolt into the wing tube, both sides.

You will then have to use a extension for the servo leads to remain outside the fuse and then connect them as you slide the wing on the tube.

Well, I was flying...Then I was not flying...and then I was like: http://ualuealuealeuale.ytmnd.com/ ???[:@][:@][:'(][8D]:)

Ok if you still don't get it:
THis is what happens when you put an oversized engine in a plane: too much vibration, too much power, too much weight and unltimatly not enough plane to much the too much motor. Stic with ys110 or saito 125a or you'll be joining the disco club ;) btw the fire wall renfoced but apparently not enough.:( Oh well have a new ST coming my way, learned from the past one new one should be even better. Going to go with a Hyde Softmount on the YS110 for sure.

Too much motor + too small of a plane = crash if "you let it go too fast":D

RE: Showtime

Disco......my plane looks quite a bit bigger than that.... yours looks very short!

Must be the angle you are holding it!

Yes, but do you know my power to weight ratio !:D?

I used a saito 180 with 18x6w 15% nitro .IT IS MAGIC :):):)

CG is on the spot
No firewall changes

love it

I am a armature in hover any suggestions on cg and practicing?

RE: Showtime

Walter-AFPD or G3 simulators would be your cheapest way to learn how to hover. If not, I would get a some kind of cheaper profile, MOJO 40, Katana 40, Omp edge. Actually I have never flown a bad profile. The ST hovers well just start up high, with little wind if possible.

I do not have the $$ to buy most of he engines talked about in this thread and after reading the entire thread I do not see that anyone has installed the Super Tigre 2300 (1.40) on this airframe. Does anyone have opinions on this set-up?

Thanks in advance!

I had a ST2300 on a super stinker a while back and it seemed to be a pretty smooth running engine, my 2cents beef up the firewall ( fiberglass ) and try not to mount it upside down, mine didnt like being inverted, but that was mine. ???

check out the hanson evo showtime pic, interesting!

RE: Showtime

Has anybody put a saito1.50 in their plane yet? I tried to mount mine over the weekend and the exhaust pipe sticks too far back to allow for easy installation. Do they make 90 degree headers for this engine? Where can you get them?

kennyandannie 01-03-2006 05:22 PM

RE: Showtime

Yes, I have one in mine. I carved the firewall and the bottom plate out a little for the clearance. You could then fill the void with balsa to block the tank area from outside elements.

I'll try to post a pic of the area later. I didn't use the stock muffler, just the header and a piece of flex tubing, as an outlet.

I am just about done with my Showtime and was wondering how everyone is balancing the plane. The online manual says to do it upright, I have always done my planes upside down for low wings, but the ST is kinda of a mid wing.

AirWizard 01-03-2006 10:41 PM

RE: Showtime

I did it upside down so the landing gear would'nt get in the way.

cstevec 01-03-2006 10:47 PM

RE: Showtime

Believe it or not, I didn't bother. I just built it like in the manual, put the recommended Saito 100 on it & flew it. Turned out perfect & I didn't even have to adjust it! Flies hands off inverted, very well upright & it lands like a *****cat. Not that I am recommending this by any means but if you have not deviated to far from the directions you should be fine.
