RE: Showtime
Mine has a 125 with a 15X8 APC prop and although I do not fly 3D, on an up line it just keeps pulling. The plane was originally designed for a 100. I think it is a good match.
|
RE: Showtime
we talked about this just a page back or so. the 125 is ok for 3d and will keep the plane nice and light. i have it with saito 150 and consider that or saito 180 the best for hard 3d in this airframe. i would not consider a saito 100. i wish they did htese planes like they do 50cc. for 50cc planes, they say to use a 50cc, and guess what its a great match! why they call it a 3d plane and advise a saito 100 i will never understand.

RE: Showtime
OK, another question for you guys, what radios are you using for 3D? I just got back into this hobby after a long time, I have a Sig Mayhem with a Futaba 6ch skysport in it but I'm assuming that I need a computer radio to really do the 3D stuff. I know that I am just learning but I want something that I will be able to use for years to come. I have always used Futaba stuff, what do ya'll recomend?
|
RE: Showtime
You really dont need a computer radio to do 3d stuff but, if you are looking for a radio to use for future applications than a computer radio could be benfitical. However computer radios will allow you to set up airplanes with differant configurations. If you want to continue using futaba the Super 9 is a great radio to use, and something you can grow with any future models you may aquire. Im using the super 9 and theres nothing i cant do with it. Programming is super easy with its push button jog dial.

RE: Showtime
I fully agree with rcfury. I just recently replaced my Futaba 7CAP with the 9C Super. You can get it for about $325 new from Tower with the FM receiver, after their discounts. Definitely get something you can grow with. But, if you're just getting back into it, purchase slowly, don't get too carried away all at once.
Oh, and welcome back. -Pat |
RE: Showtime
Thanks, I'm going to get the Futaba 9C, should I get PCM or just FM? I'm going to try not to go crazy buying stuff all at once. I am going to do this Showtime kind of as a winter project so I have pleny of time to learn about all this new stuff that was no where to be found when I used to do this. Any other advice for a guy getting back in like me?
|
RE: Showtime
Tower has the 9 Cap Super with the PCM receiver for 399.99. I like flying PCM because it gives me a little more confidence against radio hits and failure. If the receiver loses its signal the receiver will go into fail safe. That is, that all the surfaces and throttle will return to a position that you set on the radio. Example, close throttle and return to neutral. I also noticed that if someone turns on your channel while you are flying you have a better chance of recovering if he realizes it before his signal becomes stronger than yours. Your plane will not immediately go out of control as with the FM. I know this because it happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. A guy turned on my channel and I flew for quite a distance before his radio overcame mine. Unfortunately he did not realize what he had done and caused my plane to go in.
|
RE: Showtime
I bought the 9C Super with the FM receiver because it was cheaper. I already had three PCM receivers on the same channel, so I just use one transmitter for all the planes. I have used FM out at my flying field, on the same channel, only to find that I get occasional "hits" that cause the plane to make a violent movement in the air. Using PCM, that has not happened once. They are simply less prone to small amounts of interference. If you can, get PCM, that's my recommendation.

RE: Showtime
1866 Posts, someone has a fix for the tailwheel??:D Those springs are terrible, what can I do to fix it?
Mac |
RE: Showtime
I got a Sullivan tailwheel for mine, I hated those springs!
|
RE: Showtime
Yea, I agree, but it's already mounted, someone has to have a fix for the springs. Don't some take the springs up to the rudder linkage?
Mac |
RE: Showtime
Will I be able to fit the Saito 125 in this thing wihout me having to change stuff around?
|
RE: Showtime
I used a long pull, pull bolt through the rudder, but assembled it with the rudder servo in the rear using the regular swivel link on one side. Now, attach the springs from the T bracket on the tail wheel to the pull pull bolt. One on each side, works perfectly for me.
|
RE: Showtime
I was thinking of adding a bolt for my springs in the frt. of the rudder, I don't
think the epoxied screw will come out to easy... But I may just go with the sullivan. My springs are so loose I have 1'+ of play no problems on roll out or landing but taxing require a bit of rudder use[:@] |
RE: Showtime
I ended up shortening the rudder springs a little to make the tailwheel a little more steerable. It does, however, put a little more strain on the servo, so I'll probably end up switching to the Sullivan design as well.
|
RE: Showtime
That's most of my concern, the tension on the servo, I actually stretched my
springs to reduce the tension when I installed, I started with 1/4 play on the wheel, but the play is getting a lot more now plus my wheel wire at the bracket is getting some play there also, I tighten it three tome already... I think I'm going to the Sullivan, Would have installed already but the deal on a 60-1/4 sullivan fell through.... I'm also looking at adding a light alum. tab at the frt. bottom of the rudder to attach the springs... |
RE: Showtime
I just threw the springs away and free-wheel it. Never had a problem.
|
RE: Showtime
I actually got rid of trhe wheel too. All i have is that carbon leg and it works just fine.
I have had about two gallons through this plane with a sait 150 in it and i have to say that i love the model more and more with each flight. Awesome rolling harriers, hovers much easier than any otehr plane i have owned. Sweet deal!!!! 150 gives awesome power with a 16x8 classic series prop about 15 minutes of easy flying 3d flight time per tank. |
RE: Showtime
I'm in need of main landing gear for the Showtime. I know, I know buy them from the supplier but I have a real problem spending $59.00 for land gear when you can buy the plane new for 199.00. That's almost 30% of the total cost. Now I bet your wondering why I need the landing gear, Well the plane I have was dropped from the sky flat on it's belly and the guy who owned the plane doesn’t repair a thing he has someone else assemble the planes for him and that same guy stripes the planes of everything after they've been crash. Well I acquired the plane without the landing gear and the guy who stripes the planes won’t sell me than gears.
|
RE: Showtime
LoL, I've dropped the plane on its belly in a harrier near the ground one time :)
I had to buy the dang landing gear too and I thought the cost was a little excessive. There is a guy in our club who can make anything out of metal so I have him my broken landing gear and he is going to make some aluminum ones for me. |
RE: Showtime
Let me know they turn out, I may need him to make me a set.
|
RE: Showtime
TNT and graph-tech will custom make gear. Or they may have something close.
Not sure but I bet some Std. F3A bolly would work. |
RE: Showtime
I will let you guys know, there are a few of us with Showtime's in the club here and we all want a set. I think he will make a few and I told him of the problems that people were having and he might try to make them available to the public... He is working on them in his free time but I will keep you guys updated!

RE: Showtime
IT FLYS!!! I finally took the bird up in the air. And i am very happy. With only a few clicks of trim it flys straight and level. Unfortunately my low rates were still a tad to touchy for me so I was constantly trying to correct. The Saito 125 really pulls the plane, however not unlimited but, its plenty for my type of flying. When i get more fuel put through the saito it would run much better.
Well, such a good thing must come to an end sometimes. I did everything opposite what everyone says on this thread. **slaps forehead** Comming in for final really slow, slower then i should be doing on such a perfomance plane, I started to notice the sign of a stall. Mixxed with a slightly touchy low rates, and a slowed reaction to add throttle and climb out. The plane tipstalls and does a cartwheel so good a gymnast would get jellous. Well the good thing is, this plane is built like a brick. The only damage was a elevator half bent up at the tip. With a little balsa and some glue it would be perfect. I do got a question. Does anybody have some spare purple covering that they could lend. I kinda dont want to pay for 6ft just a a small section. PM me if you could help. |

Here is some cellphone pics of the extent of the damage. Shouldn't be that hard to fix.
