TOC won with an Ultimate!

I love it.

Although I wanted McMurtry to win, it was not meant to be. Instead, it was Hyde with an Ultimate.

I have a fetish for the Ultimate and so maybe we'll see more at the local flying field.

Even though my ultimate is not a 40%, (it's actually a mere 1/4 scale), it always comes through and makes me look much better than I really am.

Ultimate

FYI Actually, Chip's Ultimate is 42% of the full size. The CG Ultimate is about 24%. Go to www.aeroworks.com to see Chip's. I will have to get it!

Is this the first ARF to win TOC?

chip has been competing with the Ultimate for several TOC's now. it was a rush when 2nd place was announced.... the Hyde crew were jubliant to say the least! and the crowd went wild...

another reason why i wont give up my Ultimates, except for a better/bigger ultimate!

xtra- I have a DP ARF with a 60.5" wingspan, not a CG.

I think Chips' Ultimate is an ARC, but I'm not sure.

WOW! That's great! A guy I was talking with was saying how Hyde hadn't gotten better than 2nd for the last 10 years. It's nice to see him pull this one out. It was a great show.

I'm also glad to see someone else gunning for McMurtry. He seemed like the "privateer" entry. I nevered followed the TOC before, but it was pretty obvious he was an underdog. When he touched the tail, the crowd went crazy!

Good show!

Mike

Chip

Chip is obviously an incredible pilot and I think even more amazing is that he has been winning at pattern since he was about 10 years old. He has been successful in Pylon too. (I think even helicopters....but I could be wrong.) It is amazing that he has been able to avoid burnout and he is always near the top....simply a fantastic pilot and modeler!

I'll bet we see alot more of young Sean.... I've seen him do some incredible flying too, shoot these guys are all so good....

I remember a world engines commercial years ago on Dave Brown.... I think it said something like: I may never be able to beat Whitley or Chidgey, but I have a good chance to outlive them.... (He was about 26 and flying a Phoenix 5 or a 6 at the time.... Well, Dave did his own share of the winning without having to wait to outlive them....haha.

What a great sport....huh? No age limits....yeah....

Attached is a photo taken in B'ham AL in 1969 of Jim Whitley with the famous "Daddy Rabbit". He is in the red shirt and the red white and blue plane is the DR.

Congratulations to all the TOC competitors. I have had the pleasure of flying with a couple and it is truly rewarding to see what is possible. Thanks to you all for raising the bar of competition and quality. Without this much of what we enjoy as off the shelf equipment wouldn't exist.
