Hey guys,

I just broke a beam on my Hyde mount and need to call or e-mail Merle Hyde about it. I would prefer his telephone number if anyone has it, but if I can e-mail him and get his phone number that way, that would be good too. Thank you all very much in advance.

They are Sig beams, your hobby shop will have bunch of them just take the old one in so you get the right size.

How do the beams attach to the backplate? IS there a blind nut or something on the backside of the mounts?

Yep, the bolts are 4-40's and are epoxied in place (there is a blind nut in the mount like you suspect). Use a soldering iron to gently apply some heat to them to soften up the epoxy and they will come out easily. The rails sometimes have a bit of glue on them as well and may need some "convincing" to get off.

Sorry I keep bugging you about this, I just don't want to mess up a $100 mount. It looks like the backplate is a sandwich with a hard outer layer (fiberglass) on the outsides and something like real high deensity foam in the middle. Will that soldering iron melt that foam or whatever in the middle of the mount. You sound like you have done this before so I don't doubt you know what you are talking about. Will i need to put a little epoxy around the new rails too? Thanks alot, and sorry I have so many questions.

This is printed on the Hyde mount instruction sheet.. I don't know what the Sig beams cost, but $5 shipped is pretty reasonable..

Its something along the lines of 1/8" ply facing with glass over it, 1/4" balsa in the middle, the damping stuff is just rubber from a tire tube.

The soldering iron will likely never transfer enough heat through the wood to melt the rubber, and you really dont need to get it that hot. You will melt the nylon rails first, and if is starts doing that it is getting too hot.

The glue around the edge of the rails just keeps fuel from getting underneath and into the bolt areas which are unprotected from fuel.

Does anyone have a close-up picture of a Hyde mount they would post? I would like to see if the rubber goes over the plywood front and rear disks or flush up to it. Thanks
