Which Ultimate? Which Engine?
I know there is a few different manufactures of Ultimates out there. The top of my list is the Carl Goldberg model then prolly the Dave Patrick. I really want one of these models. Give me some advise on which ultimate flys best and with what engine.
Thanks, Mike |

own the Goldberg had OS 120 FS under hood, flies great, now I,m installing RCS 140 gas,the cost of glow fuel hurts, friend flies with ST 61 in his, flies very well but limited vertical and loops.

Dave Patrick Ultimate 120 is a little larger than the Goldberg, thus should be a little smoother. World Models' Ultimate 120 is in between these 2 in size, but also $400. Ideal powerplants:
Goldger Ultimate: OS 1.20 World Models Ultimate 120: Saito 1.50 / Enya 1.55 / YS 1.20 Dave Patrick Ultimate 120: Saito 1.80 / YS 1.40 I just think 4-strokes are better for these types of planes due to the throttle response, and muffler fitting. Granted, putting Saitos into DPM Ultimate requires some firewall trimming, but not as drastic as what you'll need to do to the cowl to fit a Pitt's style muffler for a large 2 stroke. Ultimate's cowl is simply too streamlined to enclose a 2 stroke's Pitt's style muffler. Then there's the sound factor. |

I have the DP Ultimate with a YS 120. It flies like a dream. Altough it can still do more than I am able of telling it to do. Transation, I've still got a lot of learning to do. The only thing I would change if I had to do it again would be to put the YS 140 in it instead of the 120. I wish I had just a little bit more ummmph than the 120 give me, but it's still very livable. I don't normally like ARF's, but this one was given to me as a birthday present by my father-in-law so I'm not looking a gift plane in the mouth!!! lol. But for an ARF this is one very finely built plane. I was very very impressed with the quality of the plane. I love mine and fly it every chance I get.
Hope this helps |

I have a DP Ultimate and a Goldberg with a 150. Both have slimline pitts mufflers and required NO firewall trimming. The cowl on the Goldberg takes a bit of a beating. The DP is bigger and smoother but the Goldberg fits in my wagon in one piece, and flies great. The DP is the better of the two. but there is nothing wrong with the Goldberg either, except you cant get one now.

CG Ultimate
Tower has the "new" CG ultimate in their catalog. I went to their website and it says they sould be instock in November. The catalog said it has a gel coated glass cowl and wheel pants for 170.00 but when I went to CGM's website the only advertized Ultimate had the older "molded plastic" cowl and pants.
So the CG ultimate is back. I am planning on building one this winter. Thats half the fun... Jeff |

The DP Ultimate is built extremely well, and seems to be the most popular where I fly. A lot of them run Saitos and YS engines, and fly great.

The key with the CG Ultimate is build light. I have one that I could have saved more weight on but I run a YS .91 Air Chamber on it and it still does everything a 1.20 powered one does, only it's doing it at a much lower wing loading. With smaller/lighter servos and composites for reinforcement, there is no problem getting a CG Ultimate below 8.5 lbs. In fact, Mike Cross use to get his down below 8lbs (I think they were 7.5 or something). He Dremeled a lot of the lightening holes even bigger and replaced heavy wood. I didn't go that far on mine ;)

DP and a OS 1.6 or Moki 1.8

CG w/a RCS140. Have it but haven't built it yet. Can't wait though...from what I have been told, this is an excelent combo. Hovers at 3/4 throttle and pulls out with authority...
