BME Cap Manic
Anyone flown or seen the Cap Manic from BME in action?
Looks like a fun plane. But, I can't find the specs for the wing area on the site. I like 2-stroke engines. I'm thinking a 91--120 size engine should do just about right for a 6--9 pound plane. I could maybe be talked into a hot 4-stroke engine if it was pumped. Any recommendations in the 1.00--1.40 size? Thanks |

Here is a long thread about it... should have quite a bit of info

RE: BME Cap Manic
I have one that I need to repair.
It is a fun flying airplane and a very capable one at that. If I were to do it agian I would put a YS110 engine instead of the Saito 100. It flies great with the Saito but it would be a monster with the 110 on it. John |
RE: BME Cap Manic
After reading that thread--I think I'll pass. They are on sale for $170--but not worth it if the parts fit is as lousy as reported.
I'm more into little 40 size stuff that I can use a TH .75 engine or something smaller like the OS50. Those big glow engines--1.00 and bigger--just eat too much glow fuel for me. At $13--$17 per gallon, it's just not worth the fuel cost to run a 1.20 glow engine. It's either 40 size or Giant Scale gas for me anymore. Thats all I can afford to put fuel in.;) |
RE: BME Cap Manic
the fliton extra 330 freesyle is an exellent plane. a os 50 would be a good match. most people are getting between 5.5 and 6.5 lbs ..
I have a cap maniac. Im running a YS 110. it is a great flying plane but Ive had issue after issue with construction, covering, cowl paint is still not dry after almost a year, the hardware is totally useless(i used all dubro). the covering is coming off all over. the wing had a MAJOR failure after a hard harrier landing.. after taking it apart i found out it is VERY weak super soft balsa with little glue. another guy on the cap thread said his broke in a blender. the stab also needed bracing.. Its a shame too because it is a exelent flying plane my wing is rebuilt and i will fly it untill it meets its doom but i will not buy another. |
RE: BME Cap Manic
Simply amazing.
After reading that entire thread about how poor the quality and fit is on this plane------------ you can still find a nice review raving about the quality and ease of construction. http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=558 Seems like you can never rely on the review if it's done for a manufacturer. Only place to REALLY get a good idea of how a plane is built and flies is to drudge through the forums and read everything written by all the guys who aren't in it for the free plane. I'm not calling this guy who wrote this review a liar--or trying to start a fight. It's just funny that I've NEVER read a printed review that was bad. I guess RCU knows where their bread is buttered-------by the advertisers.:( |

If I were to do it agian I would purchase the airplane over.
It is a good airplane much more airplane than I can fly and that shows with the crashes(hard landings) I have had with it. There are a couple of things that I encountered that I feel they should change but overall it is a good airplane and I'm looking forward to see what the new products that they are coming out with in the next few months. I was told by BME that the Maniac line is going to grow with new products and I think that they have listened to us and the new products should be very good products. I have been toying with purchasing a new Cap Maniac or waiting until their new line comes out and seeing if I'm still intrested in this size of airplane. John |
RE: BME Cap Manic
There is a reason they are on sale and that is that junk is not worth much.I feel I have earned the right to rant as mine had the worst covering and paint I have ever seen on a ARF.Fit of the parts was to say the least -BAAAAAD.I could of kit built a plane faster then all the fixes I had to do to this plane.I will say it flew nice for the 6 or so flights I had her until the wing snapped in half.Upon inspection all we could see was soft wood used for spars and really poor fit of parts and glue joints. No more BME planes for me way to many others making them right to go thru all that again.
