I hate to admit it, but the more I fly it the more I like it. For $195.00 at the LHS, it is one heck of a value. [8D]

I feel the same. The other day at the field, I inadvertently flipped the switch & applied full spoilerons while inverted about 5' off the deck. Less then a week later I was at the hobby shop ordering another one. Sad part of it is I hadn't even flown the plane for a couple of months. It was just like losing an old friend except I could replace it! I was afraid they might quit making it since they now have the Showtime & several other new offerings. Hanger 9 has a habit of discontinuing my favorite planes.

You got THAT right. As soon as sales drop to a pre-determined level... bam. Its history.

Of course, then you get the benefit of clearance prices- sometimes.

One thing's for sure; if this H9 27% Extra 260 flies as nice as I think it is going to, I'll be ordering a cowl and a few other "parts", while they're still available.

A pal is on his second Funtana 90. This first one had an OS 1.08. The current one has a Saito 1.50. I think this model is comparable to The Empire's UCD 60; just a great flying model that has been extremely popular (the F-90, that is. I was underwhelmed with the smaller one). I just wish they would make it in a different color scheme.

If they DO decide to discontinue it to make room for something else, and drop the price to clear out remaining inventory, I'll buy one just to put up for a rainy day project; strip it and recover/re-paint to my liking.

I'm still lovin' mine even though I'm still a beginner 3d pilot. I built mine light and its been really forgiving while I learn. But I think it's tendency to float and that its so hard to stall may limit me in the end. Also it can only fly really slow because of a flutter risk.

Someday I'll "graduate" to a more advanced plane like an Edge or Laser I imagine. But for now, I'm all smiles when I take out the big yellow bird. It's just such a clown and a nice distraction after watching ten identical Extra's fly by...

I don't typically race mine, but I don't fly it any slower than my other planes. I have on occasion made a full speed pass with a 16 x6 prop that is unloading higher than 10,000 rpm in the air. I know, probably looking for trouble. [sm=lol.gif]

I still have my original (the one in the pic) & it & my second had between them probably 300 flights. I never worried about the wing flutter issue much but I sealed the gaps & replaced the hardware with good high quality stuff from Robart & Dubro. I personally think the wing flutter issue was mostly due to poor hardware allowing slop in the linkages. The stuff that shipped with the 90 was exactly the same stuff that shipped with the 40 & I didn't think it was strong enough for the 40. Just my opinion but mine have held up just fine. Then too, even after Hanger 9 modified the wings, some people have still had the flutter issue. Tells me that something else was the issue here.

Here's the one I dumb thumbed a cuple of weeks ago, I am going to duplicate the scheme on this one. You don't have to comepletely recover the plane to make it better looking.

Yep, I still enjoy mine too. It's in it's second year and has given me absolutely no trouble and is built stock out of the box except for a Sullivan tail wheel bracket. YS 1.10 for power.

I am a dyed in the wool Saito man myself but I have flown a friends F 90 equipped with a YS 1.10 & I have to admit, that is a really good combo. Appropriate power and weight. Mine have a 1.20 & a 1.50 in them and the 1.50 is unreal, the 1.20 is similar to the YS, maybe just a little less power.

Hey cstevec, You must fly at Hanover RC Club...either that, or there is a guy who flies at Hanover that did the exact same thing with the exact same plane as you described no more than 2 weeks ago. Coincidence?

I thought so. Then you've heard me talk about getting a Funtana 40 already. But I came to a realization....For not much more money, I could get the F-90 instead. That's how I stumbled onto this thread. How much torque is needed for the servos on this plane? I'm looking for a good affordable servo that will be adequate for 3D. Oh, and for your entertainment, here is a picture I took of Claude’s Funtana on Sunday.

I really bang mine around hard. If you are going to bang it hard and have 3D throws I would go with a strong MG gear train. Others have got by with much less.

Cheapest servos at about $33ea x 5 = $165

Think of the plane as a F120 not a F90

You should post one4 of the pics you took of mine the week before! As to servos, I fly mine with Hitec 5475 servos. The other one I have has the 5625's in it but they are way overkill for the plane, I also have them in my big blue one I flew at the airshow. The 5475 servos are only 34.00 from servo city & occasionally they can be had in a twofer deal.

If you want some advice, Saito is releasing a new engine as we speak. Saito 1.25 4 stroke & I am sure that it is going to be absolutely the kittens britches for this plane. Claude & I both run Saito 1.50s in our planes but I'm not so sure you need that much engine. A 1.00 will fly the plane just fine but it needs about 6-8 oz. of lead in the nose to balance with that engine & lead is never a good addition to a plane.

I put the fuel tank behind the wing tube so CG would not change during the flight. I think my CG this way is 6.875 with 34oz motor/ muffler/ pump and 5oz battery up front with motor. My all up weight is 10 pounds. Plane flies well this way, but the elevator is very touchy for IMAC.

Recently I added 8oz up front to get an idea of what it would fly like with an OS160FX at 10.5 pounds. Not sure where this moved the CG to, but I was amazed how much nicer the plane flew. It became very good for IMAC and still 3Ded great. Long story short, I think that a lot of F90's would fly better with a more forward CG.

Next step for me is to move the rudder servo forward or fuel tank forward or go with a heavier motor. Not sure what I am going to do? Will fly it the way it is now till then. [&:]

If I were buying a new motor for this bird it would be the ST2300 or OS160
