I have a bug in me that isn't going away. I'm on the edge of spending over $2000.00 on on offraod r/c truggy. It's the Hotbodies Lightning Stadium Pro, and I was going to get a modified Novarossi 28xr engine for it. The thing would be a bullet, but, is it worth it? I do spend most of my time flying my F90 (weather permiting) and I was thinking for those off days the truggy would be a blast. Anyone else been down this road? If so, do you still enjoy offroading, or will it get boring fast and turn into an expensive paperweight??

I fell hard into 1/8 buggies last year along with Unlimited MT's.

You can do a 50cc gas for what you will put in a serious race buggy/truggy.

PLUS you are always putting money into cars, ALWAYS!!!! Tires are only good for a couple of races, motors...........dam I went though 6 motors last year. Mostly P5's and WS7 II's. At 300 a pop and thats not a mod motor.

It is fun, I like racin, however I fly airplanes, not race cars.

if you're just off-roading and sport-bashing can't you just spend like $500 and have just as much fun?? then you'll have $1500 left over. Unless your really trying to win a race I don't see why you need to spend $2K???

IMHO , it sounds like you have the money to buy the truck so go ahead and buy it while you are able to buy such an expensive rc vehicle. Yes I am going down that road now, I fly but have been looking at the trucks and off road buggies in TH and they are very appealing.

I have a battery powered motor cycle I bought from Radio Shack and I get a kick out of it every time I run it at the field where I fly. :) I am planning on getting a glow powered bike as soon as I finish doing research on them.

i have both cars, and planes, and i spend more time with my planes! Why don't u spend a bit less and get a cheaper car? I guess it depends on which ur more into!! and if ur into both then go for it!!!
personally i find cars get to a point where u just need to put money in to get it to go faster.:))

Maybe dust collectors. I have five of them collecting dust in my basement. Two Kyosho 1/8 scale chain driven Vanning off road cars (one still in the box) and three Team Associated RC300 on road 1/8 scale cars with Lexan bodies.
Occasionally I notice their bumpers sticking out from underneath a bench and I wonder it all those motors are seized up with corrosion. I'm afraid to look.

I do most of my reading and posting in this 3D forum because all my 3D planes keep me busy these days.

I used to spend a lot of time and money on buggies and trucks. Recently I've been selling all of it off. My experience has been that I have a lot more fun with the planes and like Ynot said it keeps costing more money all the time. New tires, shocks, parts. I've noticed too that they tend to go obsolete quicker than planes, especially if you are going to race with it.

Do not forget that your world does not have to revolve totally around model related hobbies. Do you have a family? What are their interests? What are yours ? Aside from RC do you have any other model interests? FF, CL, model railroads etc? Non modeling, perhaps? You live in a great part of the world for hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles, skydiving, caving, and a myriad of other activities, all of which can be added to your RC enjoyment.

Sorry for any off topic stuff, especially that which does not serve the interests of the RCU advertisers, but I have found that over the years model builders have enjoyed a very diverse range of interests, yet have always retained their interest in model aircraft.

As flyer since 1992 (planes and helis) ,last Jan of 04 , I got bit by a simular bug albeit less costly. I got a Savage along with several friends. And then you have to do at least some basic upgrades ,so a $430 truck can close to double really quick in cost. And it was great when you had your crew of fellow racers blasting around some sort of course . But it got real boring by yourself and the other folks lost interest pretty quick and with in approx 2 mo , mine was sold so I could work up some cash for a 50cc gaser extra 300.
I guess for me it was a waste of time and with the kind of money you're talking about as someone else already mentioned you could do a really nice gas aero bat. And big planes are awsome in that they can really bring out your aerobatic potential and truely challenge your mind. Where as the land based rc's pretty much have right/left stop/go . It would probably be alright with a bunch of regular race guys but then your flight time may suffer and that would be criminal.
