Hitec 805's
 

Has any one used the 805's for rudder servo's? Would linking 2 together for 550oz of torque be plenty for a 36% Edge?

I'll be building a FiberTech Aviation 36% Edge and I'm thinking about what servo's to use. I was thinking of Hitec 5645's all the way around except for the Rudder. That's where the question about the 805's come in.

i have seen one in 33% planes and 2 in 40% and they all would knife edge loop.

I've built the fibertech aviation Edge 540. I'm on their website. I'm the red and white edge. My son and I are in the picture together.

Anyway, here is what I'm flying mine with and it performs flawlessly.

Engine ZDZ 80 single with 26X10 prop
Servos: (1) Hitec 5735 with nelson bellcrank on the rudder
(1) Hitec 5625 on each elevator half
(2) JR 9011 mid size coreless on each aileron
Batteries: 2150 Nimh 6V un regulated
Radio : Futaba 9C
Weight: 27lbs only because I had to add a pound and a half to the engine box to get it to balance.

The plane is awesome, with unlimited vertical. The ZDZ isn't broken in yet and I'm in Love.

I think that 2 805's would be adequate in a 36% plane. They should provide plenty of authority for your rudder. I am building a 50% Cap 232 and will be using 4 805's ganged together. Will probably use a JR matchbox to avoid any centering issues.

Hi,
For a model of that size i would think 1 805 would be enough. My Dads used them on one of his models and have performed very well, we've got 2 lots of 2 servos on 1 surface.
I would strongly advise (i think Hitec tell you this anyway but...)you run them from the battery packs directly otherwise you could burn the RX out as they draw a HUGE amount of current!

I've seen your plane many times......I'm the guy that built their new web site. Very nice plane you have and am glad to hear it flies well. I was going to use a ZDZ 80 also but I was thinking of using a Carbon Fiber fire wall, CF landing gear and tail gear, and perhaps the servo plate might be CF also. Should make a nice light plane.

How do you run the servo's from the battery pack? With a matchbox?

Hi,
Nope...no matchbox what we did is get some veroboard ( i think thats what its called...fiberglass or similar with copper tracks on one side with holes in)...run the battery leads to 2 seperate tracks (i.e. 1 lead per track) then take your power for everything off these tracks.
All it does is use these copper tracks to distribute the power rather than use the Rx tracks which are much thinner.

One 805 will be more than enough for the rudder of a plane that size. I am using an 805 on the rudder of an AW 36% Edge, and AW 33% Extra330L and a Carden Extra 300s. All have more rudder authority than will ever be needed. I can knife edge cuban 8 the AW Extra all day.
