Magic tank placement

I bought magic a couple of months ago and have been having a ball with it. Stock fuel tank burst and replacing with a 8oz Sullivan
I have read on a number of threads to move the fuel tank back to the cg, which seems to make sense. Will this affect the performance of a os46fx? Has any one had engine trouble by doing this? By moving the tank back to cg does it help in a hover or TR. Any comments would be appreciated

I've got the same motor and fuel tank as you.

I left the tank at the original location and mounted a 5 cell 1100 Nimh battery at the back of the radio compartment right above the rudder servo. My receiver is also located next to the throttle servo.

Fly's great.

Magic tank placement

Hey there,

I have the tank on my magic at the mid former close to the CG. I am using the OS40FP and I do not have any fuel draw problems.

I have infact had to add about 1 oz of weigth at the nose to balance it at about 4.5" CG.

Regards
Marcus

Thanks for the replies
When the stock fuel tank burst and I replaced it with the larger 8oz tank, I also installed it in the original location. Once in the air I had to trim the plane a number of times as the fuel was being used. It didn’t see like I had to trim the plane as much with the stock tank. I do like the longer flight time with the 8oz because practicing hovers, time gets away from you (One problem I did notice it keeps going dead stick when I run out of fuel :). I’m going to do some modifications and move the tank back to the CG (mine at 5-1/4") so as burning off fuel I don’t need to keep changing trim settings. This would put the tank approx 3-1/2" back from engine. Moved my throttle servo (HS-81) in front of tank. Will try it out this weekend.
