RE: ESM katana 40
Try www.singahobby.com. the katana 50 also looks like another great option.

RE: ESM katana 40
The ESM katana which my friend had was great. He mounted a saito 100 / 20% on it and it hovered at less than midstick. Excellent pullout power!

RE: ESM katana 40
Be careful with this one. I just purchased it, great kit but it weighs 3.96lbs as the add says but that's with no engine or radio!

RE: ESM katana 40
you serious about the 4 lbs without radio or engine???? waqs gunna stick a 46SF in it, but may go back to the ultra-RC katana 50 if thias is true. can anyone confirm?

RE: ESM katana 40
I have the kit right here,Freestyle Katana 40 by ESM. the manual says flying weight of 3.96LBS. However I weighed the kit as is and it weighs exactly that with no engine or gear. Now if you look at the lid of the box it states a flying weight of 2.44 Kgs. That's the facts, I was disappointed however with a saito 82 up front it should still perform. I have not built it yet but as I said the bare kit weighs a tad under 4lbs.
Thanks Rowdy. |

RE: ESM katana 40
Does this look like a H9 Funtana 40/X50 to anyone else? For any of you who have one am I wrong or is it a pretty close copy? does it have that same blunt LE? If it has a sharper LE (like a lot of people are doing on their Funtana's) then it is probably a good airplane. I just lost my X50 to a midair two weeks ago and I had done the LE mod on it. It was a great flying plane once the LE was fixed though, I learned A LOT with that airplane and I have been flying for 20+ years!

RE: ESM katana 40
Hi
My Instructer has a Funtana 50 and to comparismant to myn its quite the same exept the elevator the KATANAS elevator has an airfoil the FUNTUNAS has an normal balsa shape. The Wing is also a bit different it.It is thicker and longer but the flight characteristics are the same. The fuselage is almost exactly the same. cheers jp |
RE: ESM katana 40
i have one of these planes myself, and i fly at the same field that richo does but as you can see this post is 2 years old..., with a 46 size 2 stroke you need 100-200 grams of weight in the nose to get close to balancing, i have a millenium 61 in the nose and it is only just balanced. although it has the lightest wingloading out of all the planes ive had. In wind, i just glide it around on 2 clicks above idle, untill it starts to stall which is basically just a mush of the control surfaces. but this thing just floats around
