Kaos 60
Help me find a Super Kaos 60 kit. I know Bridi sells the Utter Chaos (notice the spelling change), however, I don't know what the difference is between the older Super Kaos and the newer Utter Chaos is. Anyone know the differences and am I on the right track pusueing the Utter Chaos? I'm looking for an advanced pattern trainer without going to a full pattern aircraft. Several years ago the Super Kaos fit this bill.
Any help is appreciated. ED |

Kaos 60
The Utter Chaos is an upgrade by Bridi of the Kaos/Super Kaos. The Killer Chaos is the latest of this development and features a side mounted engine. The closest thing to the original Kaos is the Sun Fli V which is the predecessor of the Kaos and basically the same plane. The Kaos was one of Joe's most successful designs and their continued popularity attests to their excellent flight characteristics. All of these are SPA legal and very competitive in the hands of an adept pilot.

Thanks Guys,
I sure appreciate your quick help. I'm impressed with the amount of knowledge out there and hope to return some (when I find it) real soon. Thanks again -- ED |
Kaos 60
Ed, keep looking. NIB kits are still out there.
I have an original Bridi Super Kaos waiting for the day I can devote the proper attention it deserves. That second listed auction (where the guy paid $124 for a kit) is one of these. The Empire kitted a 60 version in the GP Blue box for several years back in the 80s. If you'll post on the WANTED forums of RCU, etc., you might turn something up real quick. Take a look at the photo in the first listed auction, and at the plans in the third listed auction (listed in the post above, that is). That is the original Kaos. It has an "open" nose, like a trainer. The Super Kaos has an enclosed nose, a close-fitting cowl, really, which is a major PITA to fabricate but is definitely worth the effort to do so. I dunno what (if any) improvement the enclosed nose gives to flight characteristics, but it looks just plain great, and separates the model from the rest of those low-wing sporters, IMO. If you want, I'll post a photo of my 40-size Super Kaos so you can see the difference. Steve |
Kaos 60
Ed,
You were on the right track with the Utter Chaos. Get one from Joe for $85 shipped to your door.....its the best deal going rather than taking a chance on an old Super Kaos kit with rotted parts at a much higher price. PilotFrog |
Kaos 60
Steve,
You're right about the Koas vs the Super Kaos (I've owned and flown both in the early 80's) is mainly the cowling. In fact I believe the cowling instructions read "Customize cut to fit". I still shutter to this day whenever I hear that phrase as it was a lot of work, but as you said, It was worth the effort. Pilotfrog, I think I'v decided to purchase both the Utter Chaos and the Sun Fly V. I will, however be keeping my eyes on the classified for the Super Kaos as it holds many fond memories for me. Thanks Folks, ED |
Kaos 60
Actually, Ed, I believe the instructions read, "First, buy stock in 3M. Then get a shop vac to handle all the shavings and sanding dust you're about to generate."<G>

RE: Kaos 60
I have fond memories of flying my standard Bridi Kaos with a ST Blue Head 60 back in the 70's. Still have the Blue Head 60 in excellent condition waiting in the original red ST box for another standard Bridi Kaos. Can anyone out there help me find one?

RE: Kaos 60
I have one of those Blue HEad 60s! Great engine! Bearings are shot, have it all torn apart but haven't gotten around to replacing them.
My second plane was a Tower Kaos 60. I had that G60 in there. Fun plane. I got to fly a Sun Fli V this past summer. Wowie, the Tower model is pathetic in comparison. |
RE: Kaos 60
Ed, i have a Super Kaos thats never been built, except for a section of tail and wing spar that were put together wrong by me and then taken apart back in 1988. i put it all back in a box and didn't get back into modeling until today. i actually came to this site to see if there were any cheap rates on .60 engines, but if you want it i can see what i can do.

Yes, definately pick up one of the Kaos kits from Joe Bridi. I built and flew a Killer Chaos powered by a Moki 61 and it was a great pattern flyer for two years until I made a stupid mistake and put it into the ground. The kit is very good quality but as in previous post there is a lot of shaping required but worth it as you wind up with a great looking and flying model. See pictures below:

RE: Kaos 60
Bridi made some great airplanes. My second plane was a Kaos 60. I flew it for years and finally gave it to someone. I also had the Dirty Birdy and the UFO. The UFO might still be in my parents attic. I also had one called an Ultimate Chaos. That was about seven years ago. I don't remember who made that one.
