Well.... Tower did it.... they got 'em in stock, discounted by $40, and waived shipping..... so my Yak, and a 2 oz. bottle of thin CA cost me $366, total, shipped.

I could not resist the opportunity to be the first kid on the block to have one; and I'm very hopeful it will do well with a Brison 2.4

The above link gives the discounted price that aerobob was talking about. Not sure if you have to be a super buyer member to qualify - almost certain.

My LHS called me yesterday PM the moment one showed up at their door. I took off work just to go check it out. This is one beauty and very light - with the exception of the wheel pants. I am not sure I liked the silver stripes and stars. They look kinda like sticky back and not iron on. There's a 50/50 chance that I was wrong.

All in all, one heck of an impressive bird. Wish that I could have walked out of the store with it right then and there.

This is weird - but you gotta hand it to 'em... YESTERDAY evening, on Tower - the Yak was $419.99. This morning, when I ordered MINE - $399.99. Right now - the "Super Saver Member" price - $385.99. Yee hah!

Since you saw one - coronabob - were the sides flat at the wing root, and the wing just fits up against it?

This is gonna be fun, I hope.
Also hope it's not covered in chinese sticky shelf paper vinyl.:eek:

Hey Bob,

I've been tossing the idea of this plane or the GP Cap232. If the weight comes in at 14lbs the fuji would do well. So would the 2.4 Brison. I've had 2 CG Aircraft. One was the Ultimate which I sold and was an animal with a YS110 and the other I still have which is the Sukhoi.

The price is right and now with the $30 off deal and such what a deal this is....

Yes, the sides are flat at the wing root, and the wing just fits up against it. I have a Brison 2.4 if I decide to get one. I don't see a problem with 13-14lbs all stock hardware. Each aileron does require two servos.

Bill - that just makes it too inexpensive to NOT justify getting one. If it is as good as past CG products, I will be a happy camper.
Too bad - I really liked the Ultra Giles, but it's got the gear I need, and the motor.... [:o]

So - it's for sale over on the 3D Airplanes for sale.... airframe only.

This one will be a killer. Two aileron servos. Two rudder servos. Sounds sort of "animal-ish" to me....:):)

Mine will be powered with the Brison 2.4 and a Pitts muffler. Hitec 5945's all round.... coming out of the Giles, so it's all "proven" airworthy. I just could NOT pass having an "easy to transport" Yak, two piece plug in wing, ----- as Bubba sez.... "Woo Hoo" :D:D

Forgot to also mention that holes for Robart style hinges are predrilled in all surfaces. The kick-butt sized rudder has three 1/8" (or slightly larger) holes ready to go. Did not get to see the hardware since it would be rude to pull up the tape holding the box.

Once I ran through the checkout to see the final price that pretty much made my decision right then and there between the two. I like CG planes. Extremely well done.

I just sent an email to CG about purchasing the manual ahead of time. I like to get the manuals early so I can see if I need anything like standoffs and the other small stuff I may not already have. Plus if I loose or throw out the paper manual I have the electronic copy.

CG typically has taken a day or two to respond to emails

If the Fuji is to much weight for this thing, I have no problem getting another brison for this monster also. I am going to strip my Gene Soucy Extra of all of it's 5945's also and get 3 more for the 8 we need in this monster

Sorry aerobob, I have not done a 2+ servo per surface and so am not qualified to answer your question. Personally, I would go with cable pull-pull rudder on the CG Yak. I have done this on a Harrier 90 with one large 1/4 scale servo and used its weight to shift the cg around to taste.

I would think that would depend on the engine. The brison may be better off with a pull-pull. What I am going to do is the rudder setup last. That way I can see what I am going to need for balance

Yep - that's probably best. If it really is designed around 30-40 oz engines, though.... I can see battery AND rudder servo shifting.
Wonder what the covering will be? (Always a surprise with an ARF)

Welp,

After looking over the numbers, the Fuji 43 may not be a good choice. They are calling for a distance from the FW of 6 1/4 inches and the Fuji stock is 6 3/4 inches which will leave no room at all for a pitts muffler and the stock Fuji is borderline loud for the field I mainly fly at.

The only saving grace may be that Bisson has an inverted muffler coming out and most of the YAK's I have seen have alot more distance between the cowl and prop than what they show in the manual and according to QQ on his Yak that is for prop efficency more than balance

Don't be surprised if Lanier/Goldberg wants to charge you five bucks plus for manual.

I remember someone raising hell about that here a while back. I didn't blame him; I mean, how cheap/cheesy can you get???

All of their manuals are free. Just fill out the form and you can download it. The one for the Yak is not up there yet but I called them and they emailed it to me

With so many YAKs on the market, it is tough to pick one. Has anyone considered the new one from Aeroworks? Looks great to me!

Looper - I did look at the Aeroworks, but it's the "larger" Yak....and I already have one of those that I like. This one is the "transportable" size, and I don't know of another except QuiQue's smaller one. It should be interesting to see how it builds out.

aerobob, I will be watching your build on this one. If you can get a bare weight on it before you start building. I don't care what each piece is separately -- want to know what it all weighs together with hardware.

I am going to do a very detailed build, and publish on my website of this one. That always includes a pretty detailed spreadsheet, but I'll post here, also.

Sight unseen, I'm putting my money on nearer 15lbs.... but we'll see.

I'm gonna do the same thing and weigh mine after dry fitting everything. Then I'll weigh what hardware is left and decide on the Fuji or Brison afterwards. That way I do not run into what happened on the Ultimate

I'll be assembling right along with ya on this one, again ;)
