GP 1/3 Pitts 3D?
 

I'm just wondering? I own a GP 1/3 Scale Pitts. (Not had it's maiden yet!) But would like to hear from some of the experts on what this plane will do? Will it do 3d type flying? Or no? Guess I should have thought about this BEFORE I bought this plane.

But she sure is beautiful!! I just couldn't help myself!

Kind of doubt 3D from this plane. I also have one on the bench and am in the process of engine decision. It just doesn't have the length of fuselage or the size control surfaces to do 3D. It should be a blast to fly and very realistic.

I agree with EXCAP. The surfaces are too small, the wing loading is prolly too high. Its just not designed to do 3D. Now that I think about it, the only plane from GP that will do 3D it the UCD. I dont care for GP for 3D stuff.

Please allow me to jump in here to stir things up---it alls depends on what you call 3D. If you like hovering, a waterfall, or a harrier , then you got the wrong plane. Personally I prefer "rock-N-roll aerobatics. If you have ever seen Sean B Tucker or Jim Leroy, this will become your favorite plane. While not exactly the same, they perform the same routine--snaps, tumbles, and things that have not been named yet--lighting fast. Match it with a Taurus 3.2 and maybe after modeling 12 years you also can say it is your best combo, ever.

Hmmmm? Any video out there of these guys? I'd like to see what this plane is made of?

And I can say yeah... I thought this plane would do hovering, waterfall, harriers, etc. Well, I may have a plane up for sale real soon.

But I think I will fly it first... Just to be sure!!! LOL!

....is what the Pitts can do. The surfaces are NOT too small. The only things too small are the b*lls of the guys who say the Pitts can't do real 3D.... :p I've done hovering inverted flat spins, and many other maneuvers as yet un-named...

The real trick is keeping the weight down, and available power high, and be willing to deal with a slightly tail heavy biplane...

Well, I've got a G-62 bolted on up-front! That should keep me in good with the power gods!

Be sure to beef up for the G62--I got a TS52--the power is similar, so I am sure you will be happy. When you get it flying ir--and you got a big crowd at the field--do this----
1-At level flight-1/2 throttle--Roll right to inverted--
low rates are fine
2-Roll back left--about the time you are upright
3-Continue to peg aliron left--also peg rudder left
4-When the nose points up--peg BOTH STICKS FORWARD
5-Remember to breath

I fly alot of 3d and can perform most 3d moves including torque rolling down low,rolling harriers,and blenders down low. I also own a gp pitts and love flying it. It has a g45 on it turning a mens [email protected] motor is a bit heavy but it pulls it around pretty good,a little better than a scale one. Although this is a nice flying plane and dose awsom tumbles it is not a real 3d candidate. The main reason isnt the size of the surfaces,wich are large enough to torque roll,but the inherant instability of the short fuse. The first prerequiset to a good 3d bird is you should be able to cut the power and put full up elevator and the plane falls in a elevator without rocking bad. This stability is in the design of these 3d aerobats. Alot of the real 3d stuff revolves around the plane being able to elevator and harrier.My pitts, although a great aerobatic platform, is not capable of doing these things. I love watching the pitts falling back while torque rolling through the dense cloud of its smoke system. Thats why I got it.

Note my avatar....since I haven't flown the GP Wagstaff yet (it's still new), the GP Pitts is my fav.

Many have said it - the ADVANTAGE of the Pitts is the short fuse instability. You can corkscrew around, spin, tumble, snap, and do rotational maneuvers in all three axes. If you have lots of power, you can also do all that stuff on ANY line you like, 45 up, 90 up, your call.

Outside vertical snaps on an upline, followed by a flat pinwheel inverted at the top, then into inverted spins.

Like someone else wrote (right, AJF-2 ? :D ) REMEMBER to breathe!!!

Would you equate a Moki 2.1 to be good power to weight for this plane ?

Keep the Plane.... I have one too and I also love 3-d stuff thats why I have other planes. I think the pitts is going to be one nasty plane in tumbles and such!!! And it will prolly TR but I don't care if it harriers. It would be nice, but....

I'm from Findlay too, Who are you? Do you fly with the Flying Circuits? If not you are more than welcome! Right now, I'm the only one that Is flying serious 3-D in the Findlay area, That I am aware of.

I just joined this year, I have flown on private lands over the years but wanted to get into the bigger planes, and thought I should join the club... Joined "paid" late this fall, and never got to use the field once!! Oh well.... Name here is Roger Collingwood and would love to hook up with someone that is doing 3D!!
