3D 101

Hi. I soloed in June and have been honing my skills with a Tiger 60 and the pattern sequences. Needless to say, I got bored. I installed a ST G75 and a 13X4 APC into my trainer on a lark and crashed it trying to 3D. A quick trip to the LHS and I am a happy owner of a Funtana 40, with a Saito 91.

I have no idea of what 3D really entails. Most of what I see at my field are old guys hovering, with some torque rolls thrown in when things get really dull. Every now and again we have an air show at which some kid who flies IMAC does things that support my theory that there is more to 3D than hanging a plane on it's prop.

In Pattern and IMAC the first thing you are supposed to master is going straight, as that is the most difficult to learn. Throw in different degrees of loops and rolls, and you have the basic and sportsman sequences. A clear path to mastery lies in the basics, learning to fly straight.

Is there a skills progression that can take a novice flier, me, from being able to hover and knife edge circles with my Tiger 60 to doing an informal freestyle show? What thing(s) should I be working on first? Where to go from there?

Thanks, in advance

Just speaking for my progression....

Hovering at altitude
The Wall to a Hover
Waterfall to Hover
Blender to Inverted Flat Spins
Blender to Upright Flat Spins
Parachute to Inverted Elevator
Parachute to Elevator
Inverted Harrier
Harrier
Harrier Landing
Torque Roll
Tail Touch
Rolling Harriers

Doing all the above at a very low altitude becomes the biggest challenge...Personally I think a Rolling Harrier inches off the deck is the most difficult and has the biggest wow factor of all the maneuvers.

Cool. I will impliment these when I get my Funtana fixed. Muffler seperated during the maiden, no biggie, but it dead sticked. As I was bringing it in one of the Hover Boys suggested going around to bleed off speed. Stupid me, I listened. Most of the damage is fixed, I just have some covering repairs left. A crazy thing here, I find it difficult to do a full field slow roll with my Tiger, but the Funtana makes me look like I know what I am doing.
