1/4 size uproar
 

Hi all

I have a custom built uproar. It has a saito 150. Wing span is 80" Fuselage is 56" the tires are 5". The photo was taken in our guess bedroom on a king size bed. O well just thought you might like to see one.

You better hope that Saito doesn't leak on the guest bedroom comforter or the wife will have your "you-know-whats".....

:):D Funny you stated that. Our atic is beside this bedroom. This is where I store my planes for the winter. If you look in the top of one of the photos you can see my wife's hand as she was coming into the room as I snaped the camra. [X(]Yes dear, I know, ok i want do it again.[:o] I told her a thing or two;).

How have you determined this airplanes scale is 1/4th size?

I do not think tower has a full scale in their hanger. The builder goal was a 1/4 size uproar. I only know of 2 that were built. His and mine. The fuselage is mostly fiberglass. The rest is all balsa. He had a supertigre 2300 on his. I think he has done his goal. She is a super flyer as well. It was flown at a 1/4 fly in does that qualify it as 1/4 scale :D

I guess I wasn't specific enough. The way the project is titled, this airplane should be 1/4th the size of the original Uproar airplane. It is plain to see this airplane is actually much larger than the original. I take 1/4 size, or 1/4 scale to mean an airplane is 1/4th the size of the real plane, or a scale ratio of 3 inches to the foot. Since no full size airplane exists which the uproar is copied after, how is it determined that this is a 1/4th sized Uproar? Not trying to be a wise a__ here, as this isn't the first non-scale airplane I have heard described as being 1/4th or 1/3rd size. I don't understand!

Sorry, if I seemed rude, but you did get me to thinking. I called a friend that has been in the hobby for 30 + years and asked him. He stated by IMAA, any mono plane that did not have a couther part with an 80” wing span is considered ¼ scales. Biplanes with 60” span with no counter part are considered ¼ scales. I guess if there is no counter part that is the standard for size rating. I think the baby bi has a 50 something inch span and is considered a ¼ scale, but has a counter part. Thanks Mode One, I think we both learned something. Again did not mean to be rude. It was late when I posted my stupid reply.

Well,I like it! I thought about doing this to a sew different designs out there,but never actually followed though with it... Im impressed that you guys took your time to fabricate a fibergass fusalage for this bird... First time I have seen this one blown up I must admit...
By the way,I just bought a Saito 150GK,and Im about to drop it into the new Great Planes P-6E Hawk ARF they just released...How do you like your Saito?...And also,do you run a pump on yours?

I like the landing gear. It looks....................different. I'm reminded of an old war plane with that on it.

Thanks for the replies. I am not runnign a pump with my saito 150. My 150 has always been a really good engine with no pump. The bird is huge. She flys just like her smaller counter parts. No joke, I can slow her down slower than a trainer, but she can get wild. The wheels came from a 30 year old plane. I still have her at a friends shop. I did have 4" foam wheels on her but the 17" prop was close to the ground. My fellow club members accuse me of stealing them off of a baby carriage. I just tell them I may have:D . I am thinking of putting my SuperTigre 2300 on her now. I am looking hard at the Katana and Balsanova. The Saito would be perfect or either of them. The 1/4 uproar has plenty of room for the 18x8 prop the ST will swing.

Hey,if you ever need a good set of replacement wheels for a low price,check out the Great Planes, Fokker DR1 wheels,that came stock with their ARF Fokker... I had this plane and I can tell you from experience,the wheels and foam tires are super light,and get great traction... They are 5.9" in total diameter...
And only cost $8.49 for the pair...

Thanks....those wheels are much cheaper for their size than others.

Can you say improving ground clearance?!?!
