torque roll or not?

is it still considered a torque roll if ailerons are used to induce it?

RE: torque roll or not?

Not technically but some planes will torque roll fast than others depending on the plane, engine and prop combos. Therefore some can use a little aileron if you want to speed it up.

I do know that even the full scale planes use ailerons in a torque roll. there is a second or two where it is just the engine turning it but as they start to fall backwards they reverse the ailerons to keep the rotation going.

I guess that if you want to follow the letter of the law then no, but in real life you do what you need to get the plane to do what you want

thanks, now i know!

Gotta use the ailerons for the anti-torque roll to the right:D Unless your flying a Yak or a Suk, then right would be the correct direction.

I agree with everyone else and will add this. given enough power a quick blip (lower then back to where you were quickly) of the throttle will also start the torque roll, it's tricky to do and still maintain control as you'll need to backoff and reapply the rudder also and at the same time. Planes with nice big props tend to get to rolling all on their own and can really get rolling pretty fast

Now in full scale, blipping the throttle would be a huge no-no but in RC it works

RE: torque roll or not?

well i only brought this up because, for me, a guy learning 3d, i find it quite easy to hover and then add left aileron to roll the plane in place. but when i try for a "true" torque roll, i find it to be much more difficult. i did notice that blipping throttle seems to get the roll going.. which makes sense, since the rotational mass of that prop has to transfer to something, and the plane is just hanging in the air. pretty cool stuff.
