DA or BME 100
 
Have a H9 sukhoi and want to buy engine. The DA and BME seem to be the same price. What are the differences? Which has more power? The BME is lighter but the DA has a longer stroke and is larger. Which is more user friendly?Help me decide. Thanks.

The DA is stronger than the BME 102, but either engine will have more than enough power for a 26 lb plane like the Sukhoi. The BME will require more nose weight than the DA, so the overall plane weight will be the same. You might also consider the new 3W-106, weighs the same as the DA and at least as much if not more power.

BME also has new Extreme 110cc motor coming out, but it hasn't hit the street yet. You would be a guinea pig on this one.

Would you by any chance be related to Jerry Dean? I worked at Mike's in Carrollton a year or two ago for a while, and I knew Jerry from there and from racing.

If so, tell him Dave from Mike's said hi... If not, sorry to bother you.

Ahem ..BACK to the original subject. . .

Either the BME102 Evo or the DA100 would be great engines for the Suk. If you build heavy, then the DA would be preferable sicne you will wind up needing more nose weight. If you build light, and take care to use rudder pull-pull and mount the batteries forward in the fuselage, then the BME would be preferable. By losing well over a pound of weight with the BME, and getting the weight out of the tail as much as possible, you would have a faster reacting, better flying plane than with the DA, no matter the power difference between the two engines. Everything the plane will do in the air, from snaps to rolls and 3D, will be improbved by minimizing nose and tail weight. this can only be accomplished by removing as much engine weight as possible, then setting up the tail contolrs, radio gear and servo locations to minimize the tail weight. Overrotattions and tails wagging around are caused by mass and weight back there, and are not effectively damped by the engine at the other end.

My advice. . Get the BME, get the tail light enough to establish a proper CG without adding ballast in the cowl area, lighten the plane 1.5+ pounds on top of it, and have a better overall flying plane that reacts better to control inputs, is still tremendously overpowered, and has a much beter damped tail at the end of snaps and hard 3Dmaneuvers.

Good info there. I to am on the fence for my SU-31 on motor choice. BME, DA and the Zenoha GT-80 are all being looked at. So many choices !

DO NOT PUT A ZENOAH ON IT!!! take a zdz 80 and add a brick to it and you have a zenoah. I would go with DA if you need the extra nose weight, if its not tail heavy (which I have yet to see) a BME would be great. Chances are you will need nose weight, so I'm sure the DA would be perfect.

LOL I would agree. Dont do anything Hangar9 recomands. The only reason they recomend zenoah, saito and mds is because they are all sold by horrizon. Nothin wrong with horizon, but they dont sell the best giant scale engines, Desert Aircraft does. Go DA!

Fox makes great engines too. Check them out. But you can't do better than a DA. It is only 5 bucks more than the Fox too :rolleyes: I think the Fox comes with mufflers, not sure though. I know it is an extra $145 for the mufflers for the DA.

OK DA or BME looks like. Is this Ford Chevy thing or is one way better than the other? Im looken for an easy mount of motor also.
Chief Aircraft sells a bracket for the BME, which I assume uses the stock bolt locations. I like info on the DA, but will it be an easy mount ? Will it need new holes taped or stand offs ? Any info on the mounting is appreciated !

The DA will probablly need standoffs,but they are easy as pie,and light,Check them out at www.aerografixs.com
