Graupner Exap

Hi All,

I've just acquired a Graupner "Exap" :-

I'm sure this is gonna be a sweet machine. The quality of the woodwork is fantastic, it has a real airfoil on the tail and the span is just short of 2 meters. Of course, I've done this the wrong way around and I'm looking for info AFTER buying it and I really should have looked to get a scale model of something but I fell in love with the design of this baby. Graupner don't normally sell rubbish, so I have to admit to have bought it on looks, kit quality and reputation.

I'd be interested to hear of anyone else with one of these and what they've put up front. I've got an MVVS 1.60 petrol I was going to use but I'm not sure its going to be enough - I recon it should build to an AUW of around 11 - 12 lbs.

Regards,

Phil

At 11-12lbs id say a 160FX for glow, For gas maybe a MVVS 35/Evo 35, or a ZDZ 40

That's kinda what I thought. For pattern or IMAC type flying my MVVS would probably be fine, so I recon it'll be a ZDZ40.

So no one else has tried/seen one of these before?

And how much did she cost?

Wingspan approx. 1990 mm / 78.3"
Overall length approx. 1970 mm / 77.5"
Wing area approx. 84.6 dm² / 1311.3 sq inches
Tailplane area approx. 19.6 dm² / 303.8 sq inches
Total surface area approx. 104.2 dm² / 1615.1
All-up weight according to fittings approx. 5000 g / 11Lbs

Everything is built-up woodwork, already covered in a pearlecent yellow, carbon undercarriage, painted cowl and wheel spats, good quality fittings. Graupner's RRP on it is 619 Euros, which is about 750 USD. Hobby Lobby are the US distributors but they don't list it on their website.

It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for and it is VERY well put together. It's definately going to get the ZDZ40 treatment.
