How does CG effect landing?
I have a hanger 9 sukhoi that I supect is tail heavy. I just recently switched out the ZDZ 80 single and put a BME 100 on it.
I have not checked the cg since then. The plane is setup per plans with the rudder servos in the rear and I have about a pound in the nose for balance. This was for the zdz and it balanced about an inch and a quarter behind the wing tube. I have noticed that the plane does not crawl in for a landing like it used too. Is it possible that I'm nose heavy now and thats why it is comming in a little hotter or am I even more tail heavy than before. I will balance it tonight but I just wanted to get some input about the effects of cg and langings. Any comments would be appreciated. |
How does CG effect landing?
Usually if a plane is nose heavy it will come in fast.

Balance and landing
An aft CG will make the plane sensitive to elevator inputs. A forward CG will make the plane less sensitive to elevator inputs. A good test is to roll the plane to inverted. If it dives sligtly it should be fine. If it climbs while inverted it is tail heavy and can become a problem landing.
Try setting up the plane by one of the many available trim charts. EXCAP232 |
How does CG effect landing?
The more aft your CG the more sensitive the elevator like EXCAP232. So, reduce the throws and it will float in (unless your too far aft).

How does CG effect landing?
Well guys I was way too nose heavy(Well kind of) I'am now half an inch behind the wing tube. I will fly her tommorow and find out. I took out all of the weight in the front which = 1 pound of lead and I extended the motor out another quarter inch to make it 1 1/2 inches out from the motor box. The bme 100 with pipes must be heavier than the zdz 80 with the down pipe. My sukhoi weights 25 pounds even now.
