How to?
I'm a rookie at 3d and most aerobatics, I've figured out a lot of the manuevers like blenders, elevators, inverted flat spins, and so on. I haven't been able to do the knife edge spin though. I was wondering if anybody out there could break it down for me. I'm sure it's not that difficult.

ORIGINAL: jlellis I'm a rookie at 3d and most aerobatics, I've figured out a lot of the manuevers like blenders, elevators, inverted flat spins, and so on. I haven't been able to do the knife edge spin though. I was wondering if anybody out there could break it down for me. I'm sure it's not that difficult. Some planes do it much easier that others --This is how I do it. Climb vertical-drop power to about 10% At the top stall turn to the left --full left rudder As the nose of the plane gets ~90° go full left aileron As the nose gets to 180°(straight down go full left aileron full up elevator) At this point you will have to most likely get off some aileron and keep full up elevator and add power--some planes have a big sweet spot and some have a narrow one. One cool way to get out of the KE spin is to go into a flat spin. I usually just shift my rudder to the right and let off the ailerons(depending on plane) and reduce power and inverted flat spin. I just started doing these this season. There may be other ways to do it, but this is what works for me. I learned them by watching a Flying Circus video and then practicing on the sim. Of course that video is no longer available. |
RE: How to?
I'll give it a shot, thanks.

RE: How to?
funtana 90 does them killer.. mine takes some coaxing to get it in but after that it will lock deeper than any plane ive owned.

RE: How to?
My Yak will go into one easily from a regular spin..just enter into a conventional spin and when ready goto full down elevator

RE: How to?
I have a Composite-Arf 2x2. It does blenders, inverted flats, and harriers extremely well. Now I have something else to try with the Knife Edge spin.
