Are 605's enough?

Bought a pair of Hitec 605BB (non-metal gear) servos for my Sig Cap 231EX elevators (one on each half). This is a 25% plane for those not familiar. I'm hoping the nylon gears will be strong enough not to strip with high-rates on. I'd rather stay away from metal gears if I can due to increased slop over time with the metal gears. If anyone is running a similar setup with good/bad results please post. Thanks.

I have run these on several 1/4 planes H9 cap, edge, creek sukhoi,etc.. and haven't ever tore one up yet. And I push my planes! Full power blenders and such. The only problem with these servos is they don't center very well and you really notice it when you put the longer "3-D" servo arms.

Flutter will tear the gear train out though. I haven't had it happen to me but I have heard all about it :) of course that should be a given.

Throw away the included nylon servo-arms. They are a disaster waiting to happen... especially if you push the servos hard. I like the aluminum ones from Century Helicopter. Took a 175mph diamond dust destroyed in front of 200+ spectators to teach me.

The HS-605BB has a Stall Torque (6.0V): 94.43 oz/in.
I don't know of any 1/4 scale plane that needs more than that other than the DP extra. It needs 100 or over.

Well hopefully all will work fine. They came in the mail today and are now in the plane. Hopefully 180oz for the elevators will be enough. I'm also hoping the gears wont strip as that is what happened to the old (all-be-it standard) servos.

had a pair of 605's in my sig su31,you know how large the ailerons are, well anyway, i had a dead stick and came in hard enough to bend the gear slightly and it striped both servos. i got the metal replacement gear sets for the 605 and all is well. about 14 bucks a set at the lhs. i would stick with metal on the giants.

For the size of the rudder 80oz is not enough. Make sure that you balance the travel on the servos to keep them from fighting each other.

I have had similar stripping problems with 605"s nylon gears, they seem to strip very easily,I haven't tried the metal gears yet.I pretty much quit using Hitec's all together, they just don't seem to be very dependable. The JR DS811'seems like it should be awesome.I just got some but have'nt tried them yet.But at $50.00 a piece,You can't beat em.
