I have been reading a lot of the post on this website for a while and would like to say that I have found a lot of useful information about almost everthing!!! Now for the question. I am going to get a Magic and was wondering if the Leo 37 engine would be enough to hover it. The engine is claimed to have more power than the OS 32sx and i think that i have read where the 32 will hover it but not sure.

For sure, a .46 is too large and heavy for that plane. Sure, it's more powerful, but lighter flies better.

I've read about people putting .36 Magnums and such on them, with plenty of power for hovering.

My friend and I put together a couple of Magics. I don't know about your .37, but the .32SX is a great engine for the plane. He flies on a .32SX with the nelson muffler and it DOES hover well.

I have a .46 on mine. The weight vs power tradeoff is about even. My plane weighs 4 oz more than his but we both have about the same pull-up power. If your .37 compares in weight and power to the .32SX you should be fine.

Leo 37 has a bags of power for it size, read the info at http://www.justengines.unseen.org/Leo37sf.htm I'm sure you'll agree its a good little motor, and considerably cheaper than OS32SX. Have fun.......................HM :)

A .46 too large? Guess it depends on what you want to do with it and your definition of "better" is.

I've got a .46 in mine, no extra weight added.. Battery in a hatch in the back. The only thing "for sure" is that your're saving a few ounces of weight and loosing a few pounds of thrust.

For me, I'd rather have those 6 oz's you save with the smaller engine and servos and have the power to fly in 15-20 mph wind (normal in Oklahoma).

Anyone Heard of putting a tigershark 39 on them???? They dont look to bad and for the price it is hard to beat.

Don't want a 46 because I dont want the added weight.

I have been flying my Magic for about a year with the Leo .37 engine. I assembled it using Hitec 225BB mini-servos and used a triple A NiMH battery pack with Hitec 555 Rcvr. It comes in at
3 Lb. 10 Oz. and has truly unlimited vertical. Outside manuevers are so-so and knife-edge is nil, but for pure fun this is a great plane. Notice the engine position which puts the exhaust out between the landing gear. Clean-up after five flights can be done with a single kleenex. :cool:

I am putting the OS 46 FX on mine... Several at our field have the OS motors on them and have had good luck. I hope that I do too. :)

I luv my Magic. Have a OS46fx on it and can hover till my eyes cry(I forget to blink). Just ordered a tower muffler for $12.00 to see if I can get cheap horsepower.
When I finally lose this one I plan to have one in the box ready to replace it.

I never set the thrust angle on this one. The result is that I have to hold right rudder when I'm hovering. I have the expo turned way up. I think 75%. I have a Topcap ARF. I put 3 washers under the front of the engine to get right thrust. This plane is much easier to hover in light wind but wags the wings with much wind. I've read where some people put stall strips on the wing and am going to try this when I figure out how.
