Hovering is sheer stupitity
What do ya all think of this, well it is a quote from a guy buy the handle of GrnBrt in his opinion anyway. he states this in regard to a thread in the AMA Discusion forum AMA Safety code 2003 new rule 9)Under no circumstances may a pilot or other person touch a powered model in flight!!

That's kinda taken out of context, since he was talking about touching the plane during hovering, not the act of hovering itself. This issue has been beaten to death. Everyone has their own opinion, sorry if his isn't the same as yours.

Hovering is sheer stupitity
this was not taken out of context, it is a qoute right from his post that in his opinion touching a plane in flight, or hovering is sheer stupidity looks to me your trying to put the spin on this for your buddy. What do the rest of you think?

Hovering is sheer stupitity
its helps keeps us rookies from seeing it done then as the saying goes folks don't try this at home.. well of course once we see it we still try it (maybe we end up running from the hovering plane like my buddy and i did)......... :stupid:

Hovering is sheer stupitity
Hovering a plane is a fun and challenging activity which is part of the expanded flight envelope made possible by modern airframes/engines. Pilots should, of course, be concious of their fellows fliers and not hover right over the middle of the runway when it interferes w/ other's take-off/landing maneuvers.
IMO touching a hovering plane, is just downright stupid! And JerrySU31, for your info, Art Grabow (GrnBrt) is a distinguished gentleman who has probably forgotten more about RC modeling (and life in general) than you will probably ever learn. You would do well to think twice before posting a blatant attack on somebody online. |
Hovering is sheer stupitity
It's just a rule. anyone that's capable of such a feat and brave enough can still do it on there own flying time they just wont be able to do it at any kind of sanctioned event or tell AMA they were doing it. They are basiclly just covering there ***** to make insurance companies happy. Not a problem for me, I like to hover but would never think of getting that close

Wll let me put this to rest here. I didn't say that hovering is stupid, heck if you want to hover your plane all day long then go for it, knock your self out. heck do a back flip at the same time if you feel so inclined. What I said was that to walk up to a plane that has a spinning steak knife in front of it and then walk up to it and touch it is stupid. There are enough dangers out there all ready with out going out and looking for more. Now go and hover your plane, but if you want to play Russian Roulette with it then do it somewhere else so no one can see the carnage if you GOOF!

Sounds sensible to me.

I can't hover. So my response has absolutely no personal gain. I am in favor of extreme personal freedom so long as it doesn't impact anyone else. I fly at a field where one member consistently launches his son's plane into a torque roll. I was doing low speed approaches and had him launch right in front of my plane. While I think this activity is stupid, I defend his right to do it until he hits my plane. Then he owes me a completed plane or broken bones. I will take either but prefer the plane.

Like I have said you guys have your opinion' and all of us 3D hovering guys have ours and if anybody is attacking anybody you have your shoes on backwards

Hovering is sheer stupitity
This thread is still pointless. If you have a problem with what the AMA wants to do, then discuss it in the AMA forum, you don't have to bring GrnBrt into this. So please, don't say that we are the ones that have the wrong end of the stick. Really, delete this thread, the guy is only trying to have a little laugh to himself.

Hovering
Don,t try this at home.
I just don,t want to see any one hurt. Got the chance to see a freind try to stop DA150 with 32-10 with his hand. Lost 3 fingers. I love to watch 3D, hovering Torque rolling , that takes talent. But I agree don,t touch. |

Well Well
I see Robert Tilford is trying to stur crap up. This is the lad that said Chip hyde cheated. Delete yourself Robert |
Hovering is sheer stupitity
I am not trying to stir anything up, its just a pointless thread. I would agree with you that you shouldn't touch the plane when hovering, as common sense would dictate that.
What has Chip Hyde got to do with it? It was a while back, I apologised, so leave that out of it. I have done nothing wrong, and it looks to me like you just want to start another fight. You even went far enough to bring a fight in by reminding everyone of something very personal to alot of people (Chip). Anyway, this has nothing to do with the original thread, so this is the end of it. Robert T...E....lford. Note the 'e'. |

Fellow pilot's
This thread has deteriorated into meaningless banter. Everyone has contributed their opinion, let's move on. I thinks it's time to close this one...... That said, it's closed...... |
