Split the forum

Hello
I just wanted to suggest to split his forum into two.
There are way too many 3D related threads and it gets really hard to find anyone talking about patterns, F3A, IMAC etc.
It looks like the only thing we should aim to is 3D and I personally think there are other interesting categories.
That's why I suggest to the moderator to split this forum, so you can really sharpen the search for the kind of aerobatics of your likings.
Regards
Omar

I have suggested it on a couple of occasions.

Pattern
IMAC
3D/Freestlye/Artistic

I agree, better separation.

I would think that pattern and artistic should be together, as they are very similar.....similar airframes, engines, radio gear, etc.

I give this suggestion a big applause

This is a exellent suggestion!!!
To much 3D stuff in here...let us get a separate pattern forum.

Splitting is the only way to not have to read about the pattern stuff ! 3D forum could be called "Fun" and the Pattern "Boring" Just kidding guys, so don't get excited or mad !

Definitely another vote for the Split !

Sounds like a GREAT idea. I would like even better to have a "giant scale 3D forum" because there is a lot of talk about the GP U-Can-Do and flip3d and all that other small not scale stuff which, to me, should be in the funfly and profile planes forum. Just an opinion.

This opens up the big question I have raised.

There is Pattern. Flow with Pattern Planes

There is Artistic. Different then pattern, in style of flyn, however same type of equipment used.

There is IMAC or Scale Aerobatics. They fly sequences like pattern, however also perform 3D maneuvers during freestyle. And the obvious equipment differences.

Pattern and IMAC are both flown in competition and AA is being recognized World wide.

Then there is 3D planes. 3D planes have thick airfoil wings and some sort of of fuse the resembles a cross between a Cap and a pattern plane. These planes are designed for 3D flight, could be flown in pattern, not legal for IMAC and legal for AA comps.

Then there are Profiles and other short coupled Fun Fly type planes. Not really flown in comps and not the best tracking plane, sort of an entry level 3D plane, but would never consider for pattern.

Long and the short: 3D is a style of flyn. Not a type of plane. It can be flown with many types of planes.

IMAC and Pattern must be flown with their respective type planes.

We are crossing up the type of planes with the style of flyn. Some can do others, however none can do all.

How about 4 sub-catagories under Aerobatic.

Pattern
IMAC
3D
Artistic

I think four categories is too many, on the other hand I see the reason for separation.

You could have:
Precision Aerobatics (IMAC and Pattern), and
Freestyle/3D (IMAC freestyle and AA).

If the discussions revolved around flying techniques such as how to use rudder to keep your lines straight, trimming techniques, etc. then this breakdown would make sense. However the reality is that people end up talking about specific planes, like is the Extra or Edge better. Or are the PLProd or ZNLine pattern planes better. Fact is that the pattern guys don't want to see all those posts about the H9 Edge and the IMAC guys don't want to read about the Smaragd. However, both could benefit from discussions on trimming and using rudder. Therein is the snag.

Do we break the IMAC and Pattern forums to filter out all the stuff about planes that we don't care about and loose the benefit of crossover topics or do we keep them together and just skip the threads about planes that don't interest our particular bent?

I'm definilty for separating out the 3D stuff, and ideally I'd like to be able to read about only IMAC planes or only Pattern planes, but honestly I'm not sure I want to give-up possible crossover topics.

Finally, I definitely wouldn't split AA out as a separate topic because there will be virtually no posts in it. If we were to take YNOT's approach I would just do three categories:

Pattern / Artistic
IMAC
3D

My thoughts,
Keith

i think now that the forum board is so huge that dividing into smaller sub-forums would be a good idea

I think that CLEARLY there is a benefit to splitting into two forums; Pattern, and Scale Aerobatics. The 3D or AA themes will find there own way within one or the other. I think most of us acknowledge that AA is "pattern" and 3D is in the "Giant Scale Aerobatics" realm....so why not, moderators???

Would seem you'd heighten activity because of sharper focus.

This was brought to my attention in the Moderators forum. Heres my reply,

I dont see why not.

I say make an aerobatics forum then have a few sub-forums under it.

Aerobatics:
(3D)
(Imac)
(pattern)

There's really no harm in splitting.

Folks who want to see ALL thest topics (like me) may simply subscribe to more than 1 folder.

Actually, I was a bit surprised to see 3D lumped in with pattern when I first got here.
