prop for saito 82

I realise that the benchmark prop is an APC 14 x 4W ( i run 10%), but i was wondering what other props are good for 3d, what their characteristics are, and which one i should run it in on.

RE: prop for saito 82

Have read loads of threads on the Saitos. Seems the most popular choice for 3D would be the APC 14x4W. Heard of guys using 13X4W and 15x4W APC, and Pro Zinger 15X4 wooden props.
I am running a FA 80 on 20%, it swings the 14X4W at about 10 200 rpm, which compares similar to what guys are claiming on the 82.
have also been running a 13x6 master airscrew type K 4 stroke prop, which seem to work ok, but I think it has a bit too much pitch for 3D, not as punchy as the APC 14x4W. wooden props are lighter, and spool up quicker, but havnt found the pro zingers here to try.

Cheers,

Gus

RE: prop for saito 82

I posted this awhile back:

All results on Wildcat Curtis Youngblood mix 30/23 (sea-level):

14x5N 11,180RPM (richened a lot to bring it down to 10,800 peak). Absolutely incredible throttle response with good airspeed and thrust. This is the my prop of choice my CG Matrix. Rock solid harriers with this prop but hover pullout is is mediocre.

14x4W 10,750RPM Stump pulling thrust with good spool up. Excellent braking in downlines but airspeed is low for my taste. Doesn't seem to rip out of a hover due to the low prop speed.

14x6 MA K-series 10,600RPM Excellent balance of thrust, airspeed, response and the best fuel economy. Great hover pullout and waterfalls. And they're cheap!!!

Saito .82, Master Airscrew 13x6 wood scimitar, Cooper 30% fuel and a 4.5 lb 3D airplane is a match made in heaven.

RE: prop for saito 82

I run a 15X4W on an 82. It's installed on a Funtanna 40s. Seems to have plenty of pull out power to me. I'm very happy with it. Tachs 9000 to 9100 when set at 300 rpm rich of peak. I only have a little less that a gallon of fuel run through it at this time. I expect it to increase a little more as it gets a few more gallons run through it. I'm running it on Wildcat YS20/20.
