I also have to agree with Barry. You shouldn't look at a 50cc motor on anything below an 80 inch wingspan. Maybe even 78" depending on how you want to fly but with a wingspan of 72" - you'd be better off going with a 26cc-40cc or sticking with a YS 1.40-1.60 glow.

The new Wildhare planes are very nice for 50cc engines. The new QQ 86" will be awesome on a 50cc engine.

72" though really is just too small for that size engine.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice.

I think this is what I'm going to do:

I'm going to get the Nitro Planes Extra 300s and I think I'm going to power it with the OS 120 AX. 72.5" wingspan, and the kit calls for a 108-160 2 stroke, 120-140 4-stroke. Smaller gas engines are heavier and do not seem to have the power compared to the same weight in a glow engine. And that's significant based on the size of the plane.

I was wondering what everyone thoughts are on this combo....I've never had an OS motor that I didn't like, and I'm not worried about it running right, but I don't want to be trying to hover at full throttle either. So if I need to look at a larger or different motor, I'd like your suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Railinrob,

Tell me about your CAP 232g... What does it weight? What did you do if anything to lighten it?

I'm building one with a DA 50. I've invested a few $$$ to lighten it up. I should bring it in under 15.5lbs. With a wing area of 1,289 sq inches the wing loading should be @ 27.71 if my math is correct... I weighed everything and allowed for a couple ounces of epoxy. I'm still working to get it as close to 15lbs as I can. I might be able to get it down to 15.25, but the big weight reduction items have been dealt with. With that in mind, I have no intention of going to a CF Prop and Spinner. For now its a Menz 22x8 with a 3" TT Spinner. little heavier, but I'd rather beat up the cheap stuff first if I'm going to.

This is my first gasser also.

My cap is stock with hs5955's everywhere and 1 hs925mg on throttle, 2 nimh's 1-1600mah 1-2700mah,2 jr hd switches, smartfly optical ign kill ,smartfly power expander sport ,and futaba sysnthesized rx. . It will pull out of my poor excuse for a hover with good power and climb till its a teeny spec pretty fast .I have not weighed it with an accurate scale but its lighter than a guys 17.8 lb aeroworks extra 260 at my field and a litlle heavier than my buddies Air wild extra 260 which is 15lbs even. You'll love it its a good plane .
Its my first gasser as well I have had for a few months and now All my glow planes are gone I was so sick of wiping al that nasty shmeg off the plane after flying.

Mark I think that combo sounds like it will work good . That Os 120 should yank it around nicely . A guy at our field has one in a new funtana x100 and its easily got unlimited performance .
