Tribute 36 by Hangar 9, anyone?
 

Picked up one of these profile arfs a couple of weeks ago. Having a lot of fun with it, but was hoping to hear about anyone elses experiences with this plane. Very fast assembly. Lots of control surface, but a fat airfoil, so not really sure how 3D friendly it is regarding harrier's and such.

Anyone else flying one?

What engine are you using? Could you measure the hight of the gear?

On the Tribute I am currently building I an installing
a Webra 36 with a pipe and moose can...

The center line of the motor is 9 inches off the deck...

Also using carbon fiber push rods ( Hope this works )
Looks like this little plane is going to be WILD !!!!!

I've been flying mine with a Saito 50 up front, enough power, but not ballistic. Also, had to grind away a good bit of wood to get it to fit. Prop clearance is fine with a 12/5, but the landing gear is pretty weak. Starts to give way after several quite acceptably smooth landings. I went with high torque metal gear mini servos since I had some, so that means supplied control rods weren't quite long enough, so I'm switching out for graphite as well.

Hovers easy enough, the rest I'm working on.

It measures right at 4 lbs even on a digital fish scale. This is with all supplied hardward and a 5 cell 1800 mah nimh battery and a combination of Hitec 85mg's and 81mg's.

Hey SOTOS,

Thanks for the weight ,sound really good. You mention 85 and 81 servo ,I am curious where you use the 81 ?

Hi Phil,

I used 85MG's on Rudder and Ele. Used 81MG's on Ailerons. Running a 6 Volt Rcv pack, so I think they offer adequate torque. I did have to replace stock servo arms on ele and rudder servos in order to get enough throw however.

Are the servo cutouts sized for mini servos?

Servo cutouts are sized for standard servos. I cut some adapter plates from 1/8" birch ply. I can't seem to get an image attached. If someone wants to see what they look like, let me know and I'll figure out how to attach a pic.

It really annoys me that my tribute is the only one that came overweight from the factory<div>
</div><div>My with a .40SF, 2000 mAh 6 volt battery, Futaba S3003 on control surfaces and HS-311 on throttle, with an AR500 reciever came out to be almost 5 lbs with fuel! The other thing is that everything but the battery is lighter than the recommended and the airplane is slightly over powered!</div>

11X4 APC. Running byrons 20/20 fuel to get decent performance (i.e. good hover pullout). Will eventually try a Xoar and/or vess 11X4. Seems like the best prop. If the .40 could handle it though i would have ran a 11.5X4 apc

I have been running a 10 x 6 but not very good for a nice slow fly by nor a good hover. I am gonna try a 11 x 4 and see if that will help me out.

Yeah try that 11X4. depending on what .40 you have you might be able to get away even with a 11.5X4 APC. Since my .40 is over 20 years old (new when i got it-about a year ago) it doesn't really have the power as the modern day .40 sized engines. Not saying it isn't good, it is one of the best i've owned. Just doesn't give the kind of power a 3D airplane should have. <div>
</div><div>If the 11X4 isn't really work try an 11X3. you might not get that much speed of precision type stuff, but you will get a good pull- the kind that is desirable for a 3D airplane. </div><div>
