Am I crazy?

I am getting ready to build a Su-Do-Khoi .60
I am thinking Saito 1.20 for it? What do you think? Too much? Or, would the new Saito 1.00 be enough? Well,... I am sure it would be enough but, I Like 1/4 throttle hovers and not sure whether the 1.00 would do it.
The plane is supposed to be in the 7-8 pound range.

I run a .72 in my Top Cap and its perfect. I'm looking for that type of performance from the Su-Do .60

Opinions?

(JBH--I know what your going to say ;) )

Go for it. Overpowering is never a bad thing. 1.20 4-stroke in a .60 size plane is done alot, only problem might be ground clearance, that Saito turns a big prop.

If ground clearance is a problem just use big wheels. Who cares what it looks like as long as it's grossly overpowered ... Right??? My sig KADET LT-40 looks plumb dorky b/c I put a saito 72 on it and I needed to raise it up. Oh well it hovers and it's a trainer :D

Hehehe... well... 7-8 lbs is a toughy. The Saito 100 is great in the 5-6 lbs range. The Saito 1.80 (which has the same weight as the Saito 1.20 and 1.50) is great for 10 lbs planes (but not 11-lbs). I guess OS 1.08?

It's all too confusing... just do what I would do... put a BME-50 on it and forget it. <g>

Well, I have a goldberg extra 300 and that is a recomended 60-90 size plane and I am looking to put in 1.4 or 1.5 so that is about the same as what you are doing. The only thing I have to worry about is weight. Is this an issue for you? Go with the biggest engine that will allow.

i used to have a goldberg extra with a bgx 3500 and a tuned pipe running down the inside of the fuse.!! hmm i guess it was a little overkill huh? :D

engine for 60SuDoKhoi

I have a YS91AC on my 60 SDK. I used to swing an apc15x7, but I'm trying a Zinger16x6 right no. With servos mounted per plans, mine came out just a tad nose heavy, but I haven't added weight to the tail. Compare the weight of the Saito120 and YS91AC/FZ and it should give you a good idea. A Saito120 will not be to much, and don't worry about prop clearance, for some reason the aluminum under carriage comes bent in a way that makes the nose very high. It is a great hovering plane, when doing elevators and harriers it needs some spoileron to keep from rocking out.

My 60 Su-do-khoi came out at 7lbs even with a .91FX and Mac's tuned pipe. Performance was incredible!! NO wing rock during elevators or Harriers. Very controllable waterfalls ON THE DECK! unfortunately on about the 1000th violent blender I folded the wooden dowel wing spar and it met its demise. What a shame. I really loved this bird. With a 15x6 Pro Zinger on the piped .91FX this bird screamed out of hovers. Saito 1.20 should be a great choice as well. I saved quite a lot of weight by swiss-cheesing those heavy landing gears. Also. I didn't sheet the fuselage, but rather capstripped all of the formers and longerons. A lot of weight was saved with no sacrifice in strength or rigidity. I miss her!

Knife brother,

Thanks for the info. 7 lbs is awesome for this plane. mine is 8 lbs even. I never thought of doing what you did with the fuse sheeting. Good idea.
I flew one of these planes a few months back that was over 9 lbs and it was a great flying plane. It had a MVVS .91 on a pipe and was suuuuppppeeerrrrrrr stable in hovers and 3D stuff. I am happy with 8 lbs but man, 7 would be nice!

Heres mine.
