Wing Design

Assuming both same size airplanes are set up properly, what are the different flight characteristics, (benefits, negatives) of the deferent types of wing configuration/design? ie; Giles type, Cap type, Yak type, Edge type Extra type etc., etc.,etc.?

RE: Wing Design

a more square like wing (constant chord) has the lower wing loading, a more tapered wing rolls, snaps and spins better but when it is too much it tips stall, a more forward swept wing concentrate lift at the root, so, it has less tendency to tip stall but the model is less stable in flight (desirable for 3d, undesirable for pattern), finally a thick airfoil means a slower airplane and a sharp leading edge means it will have a stall at a lower AOA witch can be desirable for 3d (a stable harrier must have a full stalled wing)... uf! hope this helps

With all that said when is someone going to build a forward swept wing on a 40 size 3D plane. I got no skills or I would do it. Could be cool. Well, I suppose it would have to be cool since forward swept wings ARE COOL.

There are a few forward swept glider models. Glideslope efficiency of the big ones is getting up towards 100:1 now i believe.
