I'll kick in my two cents and let everyone else come in with the details.

I get the plane on a downline... then give full left aileron to get it spining... then once it is spinning nice and fast I push full down elevator and full left rudder at the same time. I'm also starting to throttle up at this point. Depending on the plane and setup... this can be from full throttle all the way down to 1/4 throttle or less.

When I transition to the flat spin portion I use down elevator, right rudder and left aileron. This seems to help get the plane flat as it goes through the negative snap..

Whoops! I meant right rudder! Thanks, Wayne! :-)

thanks
I always thoughtthat an inverted flat spin required down elevator, right aileron and right rudder or down ele, left aile and left rud.
Can you guys tell me how to perform a knife edge spin?
Thanks again

Since you are going negative (down elevator) the aileron and elevator have to be crossed. Right aileron/left rudder or right rudder/left aileron to snap or spin inverted. Once the spin is going then you can or may need to slowly reverse the aileron input to flatten it out. Some planes need it more than others. I have a 30% Giles that doesnt need the right aileron very much at all to flatten it out in a blender.

OK, I got it now (I guess LOL).
How about a knife edge spin, I have seem that being performed and it was awesome. In fact, the guy flying his 40%CAP did that followed by a flat spin, followed by a harrier or elevator (dont really know the difference between them), and followed by a torque roll. Way too much talent to bare, ... :)
So, if anyone could help me on this one, how to enter/perform a knife edge spin.
Thanks a lot

Catch me if you can! 02-12-2002 11:02 PM

Quique says something like: "We climb... we need altitude to do this maneuver... we climb... and then we point the plane down... doing a stall turn or whatever... then we push full elevator, then full left aileron and full left rudder... then add some power."

I think it depends on the plane and its setup. You definitely start on a downline... and you definitely need full down elevator... but I usually only need mid rudder and a little aileron for it to come out right. And, a little power... like Quique says. ;-)

Wayne? Don? Anyone? :-)

I saw a guy doing that sequence in a fly in in Brazil. The kiddo had only 18 ye\ars of age.... awesome. He also performed the same sequence followed by a rolling harrier (extrmelly impressive, could see every inch the flying surfaces moved) followed by a rolling loop. I could barely digest all that.... had all that stuck in my mind for weeks....

I spent the day plowing snow at the airport and it warmed up to a balmy 20 degrees! I know that sounds cold but the sun was out and I spent an awful lot of time dreaming about flying again! (third time in less than a week so spring is definately coming) Sterling
