Well, what happened?

This plane was VERY popular for a couple weeks and then just seemed to drift away...This was probably 6 months ago.

I have been flying mine for about 6 months and really like it. Definitely the best flying airplane I have ever had or flown. It also looks great and went together better than anything I have ever seen. There is nothing else that compares to this.

Who else is flying one of these? Where did all the interest go!? What happened?

Want to share your setups? What engine, servos, CG locaton, weights, throws and all that. What kind of flying do you guys do with it?

I've got the YS .63 on mine and a 13x6 prop. I also use Airtronics standard servos on everything. With the throws maxed out I have close to 45 degrees on everything with a lot of expo. Low rates is 50%. My CG is right where Ono recommends it. It was either 180 or 190mm from the TE. Mine is just under 4.5 lbs. Most of the time I try and do pattern manuevers when it's windy. Awesome pattern plane and great for 3D (except for upright harriers).

Here is a picture of mine...It's been flown about 50 times since September...

Great looking plane Kris! It's a nice clean covering job.

Guess I missed the posts on this one. I gather it is a kit and not a ARF. Where can I get info such as price and specs? Nice job to the builders of these planes. looks like plenty of rudder for 3D but are the aielrons large enough? Also is the gear supposed to slant back or forward? Just a observation, not critisisem (sp) 8^)

Ron,

The Seduction series of airplanes are all kits except for the FunFly which is an ARC.

The kit is all laser-cut. If you've ever built a SIG kit take that and make it a lot better and you know how the quality is on these. They are about $140 shipped from Singapore or $190 if you buy them in the US. Service from Singapore Hobbies is great and you can read some more about it in the link below.

The construction of this model really shows that we have been over-building our models. The amount of wood that has been eliminated from this thing is huge. There is a lot to learn from this thing.

The horizontal tail is airfoiled and lighter than a stick built structure and a lot stronger. The rudder is tapered and just as strong. There is no flexing going on in any part of the model. The wing sheeting is really cut down and the whole wing except for the main spar is made from very light balsa. With some more sanding, micro servos, lighter wheels, and other things 4 lb's would not be impossible.

The Fuselage is somewhere around 53 inches and the wing is somewhere around 55! Weight is 4.5 lb's or under with a YS .63. The fuel tank goes on the CG and the rudder and elevator servos are mounted in the tail. The gear on my version (The Ono Special) is anodized. On both versions of the Freestyle the gear is swept back and connected to a VERY strong attachment point. The front end is very strong, but still very light.

There is a lot of rudder authority. It will do great flat spins, easy knife edge loops, and the best snap rolls I have ever seen. Elevator has just as much authority. The ailerons on mine are big enough for a very fast roll rate. It rolls faster than my profiles and my Somethin' Extra's. The only flaw in the design and flying is that it is pretty unstable in upright harriers. Other than that, it's awesome! The center section of the wing is a pattern type airfoil and it changes as you go outwards. At the tip it just looks like a small version of a FunFly airfoil! There is no coupling with rudder and barely any down elevator needed for inverted flight and I think I could move the CG back a little bit more to change that. There is no tip stall or high speed snap with too much elevator.

Here is the original thread that started it all-

Its still very current indeed! Its just most people here are 'making their minds up' and hence move quickly on to the latest release.... The Seduction has proved very popular all over the world and the fact that there have been very few follow ups means there have been little problems! (Well, apart from the dehidral and the instructions..). I love mine to death. YS63 is pure heaven.

Pugsley-RCU 01-14-2003 03:41 PM

I think the Widebody....

is a bigger, cheaper, and better Seduction......that may be why the interest as slacked a bit.....

My guess would be the introduction of the UCD 3D. It's an ARF for the same price as the Seduction kit. Even the engine price is close as the YS63 is very close in price to the YS91 and Saito 100. I haven't flown a Seduction Freestyle but I'd imagine it flies better than the UCD 3D, but the ARF part of the UCD is very popular. Just look at the UCD 3D thread. I believe this is the most popular thread in the history of RCU. 813 posts and 58708 views, plus there are about 2 or 3 off shot threads on the same plane.

No, it's very typical of things here. The Seduction is a Japanese design and so any flyer who wanted one would have make special arangements. The ones who wanted one got one and I would say it was a blinding success. The Widebody will go the same way unless its easy to get in Europe and US.... people want things easy, who can blame them? The UCD sells by the bucket load in the States because its easy to get. Over here in Europe nobody has heard of the thing. There are now some five or more Seduction designs, all red hot items in Japan. The Seduction "Wildstyle" is awesome.
I am defending it... I own one, have flown one and can say its a great great design. I have yet to see a 63 size model to beat it... well the Stream 50 comes VERY near... :) What I want is a great looking plane, made from quality materials and a superb performer.

Oh.. you know Lanier are going to produce an ARTF Seduction?

The videos are great. The YoYo video shows you the power of that YS and he does not even go to full throttle. I wish I could fly like Ono...

artistic-aero, I thought all the pictures made up for the bad instructions which really were not THAT BAD. It's nice hearing from another happy Seduction pilot! I can't remember who was coming out with that ARF, but I don't think it was Lanier. I know it's called the "Matrix" though... Was supposed to be out by now, I wonder what happened?

"The Seduction "Wildstyle" is awesome. "

I started a thread about this plane in the FunFly forum with no replies. I really want this thing, but have only heard on flight report and it was not a good one. The guy said it just fell out of the air and quit flying because it was so dang light. Have you flown one? Any information on how it flies would be appreciated. The videos are impressive!

Pugs, Widebody is more expensive and too big for me. Won't fit in my dang car anyway. You should have kept your Seduction! Are you flying your Widebody?

Fun, you're more than welcome. Let me know if you need anything else!

Mark, the interest on this plane seemed to die down before the UCD was out. I too am interested in the UCD, but don't want to deal with the extra servo and bigger engines. Just like the Widebody, it won't fit in my car anyway! UCD won't be good for pattern practice either and I have heard about some terrible coupling with rudder. $189 is a great price, but the Seduction kit is $60 cheaper which will pay for covering and carbon pushrods! I know bigger flies better, but finding a small plane that flies like it's big is just as good! Seduction does a good job with that.

So, who else has one? A lot of you bought them, where did they go?

BotleRocketWar,
Are you saying you can get a Seduction Freestyle for $129.00? Where?

Yes, I have seen and indeed flown a Wildstyle with a YS53, not 63. It unbelievable. Very very light though, for calm to very light breeze only. The build is easy as with the seduction range. High quality wood and fittings throughout. Laser precision cut - "Assemble wing then glue" kind of thing. I only got the one flight and it feels to me like a total indulgence by Pilot, it is designed for quick and voilent moves with a need to manage the power. It goes straight into the hover and can power away from any attitude. It has a much tighter flying style to the Seduction.

Randy,

Contact Singapore Hobbies... You can get one for somewhere around $130...

artistic-aero,

I already figured the kit would be just as good as the Seduction with wood just as light. Under 4 lb's with a YS .63 is incredible for such a large plane. Only thing that worries me is the wing, looks like it will crack in half on the runway! The videos make me feel a little better though. I've gotten good at throttle management with this Seduction. I have never gone to full throttle in the air and can still do every manuever in the book. I am worried it will all just fall apart at full throttle! Too much power!! I love it! :D

Can you tell me a little bit more about how it flies? They are going for $150 right now and I REALLY want that thing! I would sell a plane or two to buy it with a new YS .63 if that's what it takes...

Worth the money!

Look to the left. I hand carried two of these into the country in August of 2001. Has to be the best all-around plane I have ever flown. CG is at 110mm from the TE, YS63 for power. Rock solid in elevator (just pull the stick back and steer with rudder!). And it is super simple to build if you read the instructions. IMO the plane is not marketed properly.

Accurate Wing Span?

Jon,
What is the actual span? Singapore's website has conflicting information. They give 1180mm which converts to 46.5". Then they say it's 52". Can you give us the straight skinny?

Thanks!

jon595 03-06-2003 12:30 AM

Wingspan

Randy,
I measured 52 1/2" with wing tips. Without the wing tips it is 49 3/4".
Jon

rcflyer11 03-06-2003 12:39 AM

Leave off the Wing Tips?

Jon,
Thanks for measuring. Have you flown one without the wing tips? I'm thinking that may actually improve flight characteristics.
