Engine for Funtana X50

Hi people,
what engine mount on Funtana X50?
Saito .82a or OS 70 Ultimate or YS 63s?
What choose for power, precision and lightness?
Thanks, see you soon ...
Sergio

We have a club member that has a Saito 82 in his Funtana 50X and I've never seen a better combination. I'm tending to go bigger but I'm tempted to invest in this combo.

I think he is using 15% nitro. Don't know prop or RPM.

I am thinking of buying the Funtana X50 and I have a saito 65 4 stroke that runs like a top. It powers my sig something extra with more then enough power. The weight class is the same for both of these planes. So my question is does anyone think this engine can do the job at hand and fly the funtana x50?? Thanks

Running a Saito .82 with a 14X4W prop and runnning 30% heli fuel:)

Great combo with 30%

I hear what your saying but I have my saito .65 4 stroke and I need to know if it can fly the Funtana X50.

I am using a 82 with a 15x4 Zinger Pro Series on 30%. Perfect combo.

It should, not sure how well it will hover, but most .70s can hover this thing, i don't see why yours couldn't with the right prop/fuel combo

What do you guys think of an O.S 91 FX for the Funtana X50 or is that a bit too much.

I am swithing over to a sk 91 2-stroke. It should actually balance the plane really well.

I'm flying mine with a Magnum 61, and it works great. Put some effort into keeping it light, small battery, no wheel pants, light wheels, and it comes in at 5lb 12oz. More than enough power to hover and punch out, and it does all of the 3d stuff very well, while still being precise. I'm even using the stock muffler to save money, took some cutting in the plane to make a tunnel of sorts, and it all fits in there. A 91 2 stroke should be lighter than my engine, and put out more power, so I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be happy with that combo. My battery and receiver are all the way back above the trailing edge of the wing, and it balances well there.

Thanks Cambo, I had to put my battery just behind the fuel tank for the right cg. Throttle rod going nicely past 1900 battery. I also put 2 x 15mm extensions on from the engine to the muffler cause i didnt want to cut into plane. Muffler now sticking out underneath plane right between the landing gear.

Can someone please tell me what prop is right for this combo. The Funtana X50 with a Saito 82 for all kinds of 3D flight. I bought my X50 about 2 months ago and I am waiting for delivery on my Saito 82 any day now. Planing on building it the day after Xmas and I want to make sure I get the right set up (PROP) and all. Thanks guys.

I had the exact same combination. You will love it! The Funtana X50 with a Saito .82 was my favorite plane, to date.

I used a 13 x 8 and 14 x 6 prop on mine. I hadn't really decided which prop I liked better when the left wing snapped off doing a snap roll, so I never got a chance to make up my mind. :( Other than the wing snapping, that plane did EVERYTHING that I asked it to do, and was an absolute blast to fly!

If I still had it, I might try a 14 x 4 too. Good Flying!

Use a APC 14x4W. Tru-turn makes a spinner with a wide cutout to fit this prop.

What size is the Tru Turn spinner? Also using a spinner of this weight will I need to add weight or will it all work out? Thanks again

From everything ive read the 82 is TONS of power for this aero and its what im putting in mine tho im sure you could go with something a little smaller, just make pullouts slower :)

2 1/4" Ultimate Wide. I don't think weight will be an issue.

I'm putting a Super Tiger .46 on mine. Any suggestions for prop size? I'm thinking an 11X5. Ideas?

In case I didn't mention it, the Super Tiger 46 is going on the Funtana 50. Prop size please???

APC 11.5x4W great for any .46 2 stroke

That engine will fly the plane but at 5lbs+ don't hope for great 3D.

How about the 12X5.4 prop on the Funtana 50 with the supertiger .46? 3D isn't really the perspective, but "some" degree of 3D will be ok.

I guess you got a typo there, but any 12" APC will not spool up quick with a 46. If it's a 12"wood prop you might be good.

RE: Engine for Funtana X50

that was a typo. I meant to say it was a 12.5X4 prop, and the other choice will be an 11X5. Both APC props. I don't think a 12.5X4 is offered in wood, however with the supertiger engine I have seen this prop set up and surprisingly it works very well. Not much speed, but who really cares on a 3D style plane. On the other hand, the 11X5 I feel should give it pretty decent areobatics however 3D is only exaggerated aerobatics in my opinion. "Either/or" is a nice final touch on any plane, but I don't fly my FAI or Pattern planes as 3D ships or vice versa. I'm basically looking for Extra 300 type performance, not as fast, but pretty well nearly as aggressive, and I'll leave the 3D choices with the $29.95 Electric Foamies which fly circles around about anything I've ever seen!
