After Mr. Bennett that arranges the TOC death (R.I.P.) Steve Rojecki announces that Mrs. Bennett has decided not to continue the TOC.
CRAP!!! |

It will go on.....trust me.

No more TOC
Someone, somewhere will pick it up. I hope! I doubt all of those sponsors will just let that forum go away. The prize money may decrease for a while, but I'd hate to think of it as done.
Maybe we all need her address to let her know how important it was? |

Without a big prize money, I don't think foreign pilots would travel that far. Unless all expenses are paid by their sponsors but I hear that is not the case even then. I don't think TOC sponsors would pay $40,000 especially how the economy is... IMO

Sorry, i'm kinda new to this sport. I would like to hear about Mr. Bennett. He must have been an extra ordinary man.

No more TOC
I personally think there should be no more TOC as a sign of respect to Mr. Bennet the man who started it, Because it just wouldn't be the same. But don't get me wrong I'm only 15 and just going to watch the TOC was one of my biggest dreams.
Just my 2 cents Chris |
No more TOC
i would hate too think that a mans dream that he started would die with him instead of carry on in his memmory. i hope that it will continue on just in rememberence of him , just my thoughts

The TOC has been advertised for this year in a couple of magazines, and I talked with one of the competitors and was told their will be another TOC
|
No more TOC
thats what i thought also.... well have to wait and see i guess
|
the mags
The magazine ads are generally placed a few months prior to actual publication...and are therefore a bit aged.
As for the news coming from a competitor, the news of cancellation apparently came from a competitor (Mike McConville) through his team, and is only a handful of days old. It would be fun to have TOC happen again....It was quite a bit of fun last year. |

Originally posted by shmo46 Sorry, i'm kinda new to this sport. I would like to hear about Mr. Bennett. He must have been an extra ordinary man. CASINO EXECUTIVE WILLIAM G. BENNETT DIES AT 78 Las Vegas, Nevada - William G. Bennett, owner of the Sahara Hotel and Casino died Sunday at Desert Springs Hospital. He was 78. Bennett began his legendary career in Las Vegas more than 30 years ago when he began working with Del Webb. Through innovative management techniques, he worked his way from the ground level to one of the company’s top executive posts in Nevada. In 1974 Bennett made a move that would change the face of gaming when he and a partner Bill Pennington purchased Circus Circus. They revolutionized the industry by increasing the role of slot machines and providing quality food, lodging and entertainment with a premium on value. During his 20 years as chairman of Circus Circus Enterprises, Bennett opened, among other properties, the Excalibur Hotel and Casino and Luxor Las Vegas. With the success of the Excalibur and Luxor, Bennett helped create the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip as we know it today and broke new ground in themed entertainment. When Bennett purchased the Sahara Hotel and Casino in 1995, he set his sights on rejuvenating the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip. Bennett immediately embarked on a renovation plan that returned the grandeur to one of Las Vegas' first resorts. The Sahara now has fresh entertainment, dining and gaming options offered with the value standard, which Bennett helped to create in Las Vegas. “Our priority is, and always has been, to provide quality and value to our customers--and to listen to what they really want,” Bennett once said. “We will continue to bring modern entertainment and provide the amenities today’s traveler expects with the nostalgic flair only the Sahara can deliver.” The Sahara Hotel and Casino opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 1952, and quickly established itself as one of Las Vegas’ most exciting destinations. Bennett sought to combine the amenities and services expected by today’s travelers with the glamour, style and charm that established the property as a Las Vegas icon. Today, the Moroccan-themed hotel and casino features 1,720 guest rooms, an 85,000-square-foot casino. The Sahara property will continue under normal operations. Along with his wife Lynn, Bennett is survived by a daughter, Diana, a son William A., a step-daughter, Laura Lynn, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bennett Foundation, an organization that supports charities throughout the Las Vegas community (i.e., UNLV and other educational development foundations). Donations may be mailed to the Bennett Foundation at 2535 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, NV 89109. ### FOR MORE INFORMATION: Germaine Thompson Entertainment and Publicity Department Telephone: (702) 737-2503 |

I'd hate to see it end. Perhaps it all boils down to, it was his thing. Mrs. Bennett may not share his passion for flight. I'm sure that the tournament cost a fortune to produce, and it operated at a loss. Anyone who enjoyed the T.O.C. live (I'm jealous by the way) or on tape, should have been thankful for the experience. All good things must end, and if the T.O.C. must end now, then I'm truly sorry. I would hope that some other person with the money and desire would pick it up. So, does anybody want to go down in model avaition history. Mr. Bennett gave modelers the forum to show just what was possible with a model plane. He helped force manufacturers to be at their best. He truly changed everything in the industry. Who tought you to hover? I got my first lesson from Frank Knoll Jr. More tips followed from Chip Hyde, Jason Schulman, Cristophe, and Quique. They would not have influenced me without the T.O.C. and Mr. Bennett. I fear what will happen to the Giant Scale Aerobatics market without that forum to spark the interest of a pilot. Can these companies afford to not have a T.O.C.??? How many times has a 1/4 scale type of pilot gotten fired up after watching the T.O.C. and bought a bigger plane because of it. Where would AeroWorks and Carden be without that exposure? How about Cactus, 3W, and DA? If nobody picks this up, then what? I hope they start to allow freestyle at the Pattern Masters...

I'd hate to see it die with the man... it should be a legacy, and they should change the name - The Bennett Classic comes to mind...

Maybe "Bennett Invitational, Tournament Of Champions". That way it can stay T.O.C. It's like the Nascar finals, but the cars are for sale. Especially now that T.O.C. planes are readily available. H9, AeroWorks, Cactus, and Fiber Classics must see this going down. Legacy or not, call Budweiser and Pepsi and tell them that the SuperBowl is gone. Then watch what happens. I don't know how much those guys count on the T.O.C. for exposure, but it has to be worth something. Somebody get Oracle Software on the phone. I understand that their C.E.O. is a huge aviation enthusiast. My point is that it must be worth something to someone, but probably not Mrs. Bennett. After all, if I died, I really don't see my wife renewing an AMA membership in my name. It's not her thing, it's mine.
