Magic 3D Engine Offset
Hello All,
I have just received my ModelTech Magic 3D and plan to use a Magnum .52 Four Stroke. Love all the threads on RCU about CG and plan to mount battery way aft to balance the CG without adding any additional weight. My question is about mounting the Magnum .52 RFS on this plane. Any tips on down-thrust and Right-Thrust angles that have worked for other Magic owners with this engine combo ? Already beefing-up the firewall, so any tips or comments about this plane holding up to the extra vibrations of four-strokes would be very welcomed. Also, will the APC 12.25 x 3.75 prop be a good choice for this engine ? Thanks |

Any tips on down-thrust and Right-Thrust angles that have worked for other Magic owners with this engine combo ? I mounted my engine a little differently, centering the muffler under the fuselage. In this setup it was easy to add a couple of degrees of right thrust and a little down thrust in the process. It is perfect. -Cheech |
Thanks Cheech
Thanks for posting the pic on how you mounted the engine on your magic. I will probably end-up mounting this Magnum four stroke the same way. The only thing I am worried about is mounting with the cylinder off to one side and having to add weight to the wing on the other side. Oh well... Knew I was gonna need weight somewhere !
Thanks again for the Tips Cheech ! |

I have had my magic for a while now and I love it..I have a os 46 fx with a 12x4 APC prop on it. I have no off set on the engine mount what so ever...It doesnt need it. Mount it straight ... I have a blast with mine doing tail touches, torque rolls, blenders, hovering to a landing and much more. BE CAREFUL on those harriers though,,, It can get wobbly quick...
you can see a pic of my magic in my photos... Good Luck |
RE: Magic 3D Engine Offset

RE: Magic 3D Engine Offset
I just bent a piece of piano-wire and put a rubber tailwheel on it. It isn't steerable, but if you give it some down elevator and blip the throttle it will pick the tail up and scoot it over. If it is moving forward you can make almost proportional adjustments to your direction, and no more ground-loops.
Mounted my engine straight- flew fine. Same way it is pictured above. Also put an exhaust diverter on it- kept it 90% slime- free. <----- Thats her there! Watch out, she can bite! Watch for tip stalling- and sometimes the elevator can get into a "shadow" when flying inverted. |
RE: Magic 3D Engine Offset
is the exhaust diverter the 45 degree angle silicon pieces you buy? does it make the engine run any worse? ever hear of putting a tunned pipe on a XLS .46?
