RE: asp 75 prop choice?

I'm using a 13-5 Pro Zinger on my Tower Hobbies .75. I fly this engine in 5--6 pound 3D planes with the 13-5 and 5% fuel. It goes like nuts. Perfect combo of instant throttle response and flat pitch to give it the thrust I need.

I've tried the 14-4 but it slows down my spool up. I don't care for it, but if your at lower elevation it may work for you. Here in Denver at 6000', the 13-5 seams to be the ticket.

APC makes a 14-4W wide blade prop that does okay if your engine can turn it and still give good throttle response. It works on my engine, but it's just too much load for that instant spool up that you want for 3D. Idle to full takes about 2 seconds. I like it to just go instantly. With the Pro Zinger 13-5 my engine goes from idle to full in about 1 second. But, it may work for you at lower elevations.

The thing about props is you just have to suck it up and buy 20 of them. You just need to try a bunch of them on the plane and see which one performs the way you like. On little planes where the props cost $4--$6 thats not so bad. I did this same thing last year with the 22" 23" and 24" props for my 50cc and 60cc engines. 25 props at a cost of $25--$28 apiece gets pretty expensive. But, now I know what my engines like and I know how each plane performs with any given prop. I settled on NX, MSC and 3W props for the big planes. The Pro Zinger 13-5 is a compromise between cost and functionality. There's other props that work better on certain planes, but they cost more money too. I fly these 40 size 3D planes because they are cheap and it doesn't hurt if I crash them. So, I'm not willing to put a $10 prop on them when the $6 Zinger works fine.
